About Me
Hi there!
I'm Erin. I recently graduated with degree in physics and I'm taking a year to travel, self-study, work, and volunteer. I worked as a physics teacher, which was a blast. In my free time, I volunteer mostly at my local arts and farmers market, local music and film festivals, organic farms, and any other cause that I'm passionate about. Saying I'm fluent in German is a bit of a stretch, but I'm comfortable conversing in German. Above all I enjoy sharing stories and connecting with others.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I'm on couch surfing because I would rather get to know a place through people instead of a hotel brochure. And I'm still around because of all the beauty and friends it has already afforded me.
Interests
Live music, playing ukulele and harmonica, volunteering, telling stories and corny jokes, learning, cooking plant based food(I LOVE TO COOK FOR PEOPLE. If you have a kitchen, reasonably stocked pantry/a market nearby, dinner's on me!), drinking coffee, listening to podcast while doing house work, spending time outside, going to museums, especially art, science, and weirds ones, reading nonfiction

Music, Movies, and Books
My favorite book is The Pleasure of Finding Things Out which is a collection of writings from my favorite physicist, Richard Feynman. I listen to all types of music, but I particularly my southern roots of blues, bluegrass, and folk. My last roommate has his folk/rock band practicing at the house all the time. So fun. In general I love dancing around and fully embracing live music from whatever.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
When traveling in northern California with my friend, a ranger at one of the state parks mentioned that we should check out this place called Gnome Cave. It was apparently hidden out among the ocean cliffs in a park that very few people realize is open. So with only a 15 hours before our flight home we set out looking high and low for this place. We stumbled upon all sorts of tidal sea life we would have otherwise missed. Suddenly we realized it had been a few hours, the sun was fast setting, the tide was rising, and here we are stuck on a foot wide path on the side of a cliff fifty feet before sharp ocean rocks. We booked it as fast as we could to our start point before the tide cut off out escape route.
We never found the cave, but now I know the first thing I'm going to do once I make it back to California.
Oh. And exploring a glacier cave in Iceland. (thanks thor!)
Teach, Learn, Share
I have practice in teaching intro university level physics, which also means I'm pretty comfortable in mathematics as well. I'm also happy to help you practice English.
I'm open to learning pretty much anything, I would love to get extra practice in my German. I also really enjoy learning about gardening, farming, and any form of craft.
I love sharing stories and cooking with others, so I would enjoy pitching in to cook together a meal together.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I love cooking, (and I'm pretty great c;) so I'd love to share a meal. Aside from that I'm great at doing dishes and overall neat. We will have a great time while I'm visiting, but when I leave the only trace I'll leave is the fun memories.
