Overview
About Me
Vegan. Love the outdoors. I'm super proud of my super mixed family; although we're all Americans, we represent the Philippines, Poland, Mexico, Guatemala... I've dabbled in 30 languages, been to 48 countries & 49 US states (lived/worked in 8ish each). I usually work as university faculty of linguistics or on various research projects (in geography, anthropology, etc.), but I've worked in the arts, farming, banking, healthcare, and journalism, too. Social justice is really important to me. I love loving people. Laughing is my favorite. So are hammocks.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
As a surfer, I usually travel for work/scholarly pursuits but like to make friends along the way and see/feel how people really live locally. Hotels are too expensive and superficial. I’ve had life-changing travel experiences at both good and bad ends of the spectrum... including surfing in Uganda and Jordan, which are (mildly annoyingly) not on my page any longer as the platform has updated itself over the years. I know how intense the road can be, and sometimes you just need a hot shower! So, as a host, I really just want to provide a safe, quiet, clean “couch” for new faces who think, after reading this page, that we might actually be friends - and who might not feel as comfortable in other typical spaces! This means that my admitted bias is to host women, vegans, people of color, foreigners... Welcome. Heads up: I rarely get messages on short notice. No wild partying or late nights here.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Every day is an amazing thing.
But admittedly, sitting cross legged singing mantras on the floor with thousands of Tibetan refugees as monks tiptoe through to dole out communal yak milk tea at the main temple for the Dalai Lama’s free public teachings in August 2017 was pretty cool.
Teach, Learn, Share
I have definitely taught horsemanship, languages, basic Latin dance, etc. I may invite you for sunset hikes, weekend camping, skiing, etc. I love giving henna tattoos! Started that when I was 12.
