About Me

CURRENT MISSION

One foot after the other into the mystery of life.

ABOUT ME

Potent philosophizer (not really) with an off-beat sense of humor. Looks for the best in things. Fellow traveller on life's way.

PHILOSOPHY

I attempt to live without imposing limitations on myself. We are open organisms with our environment, over 99% of our genetic code is shared. Similarly, why close ourselves from the world we depend upon? I see a little bit of myself in random things. I feel that happiness is a default state, but we can unfortunately find reasons to make ourselves unhappy. I do not try to find those reasons.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Looking to surf right now and hopefully to pay it forward down the road.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

New to this, one experience so far, and awesome!

Interests

Awesome conversations with people I just met. New cultures, new cruisines, great new songs I just learned about. A book, movie, or person that makes me see life in a totally different light. Intellectual challenges. Reading The Economist. Finding new books to preview on my Kindle. Daunting runs in the heat, and the cool taste of water after. Camping/ hiking. Practicing yoga. Understanding myself through nature and others.

Music, Movies, and Books

2001: A Space Odyssey, Blade Runner, Tree of Life, Waking Life, independent films, Cohen Brothers movies, Daniel-Dey Lewis movies, all those old 90's comedies. Classical music, classic rock, alternative/indie, instrumental. Pink Floyd and Radiohead big faves. Philosophical works, especially continental philosophy and existentialism. The Beats, Hermann Hesse, Ramana Maharshi, Adyashanti, Nisargaddata Maharaj, Faulkner, Cormac McCarthy, Philip K. Dick. Tao Te Ching, The Upanishads, The New Testament.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Driving into Sedona, Arizona from Phoenix, Arizona and how that made me forget about my laptop getting cracked in my luggage piece. Riding in a plane, boat, train, automobile, and subway... all within my first day in NYC. Meditating and feeling at absolute peace with the world.

Teach, Learn, Share

Meeting seemingly different people, but in reality, finding more in common.
