About Me
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
One of my first solo trips abroad was to Cuzco, Peru. While exploring local restaurants one night, I found myself deep in conversation with a lovely couple who were traveling South America for a few weeks without an itinerary, making plans as they saw fit. When I asked them how they managed to find places to sleep each night, it was the first time I learned about Couchsurfing. They explained they would reach out to fellow Couchsurfers during the week, meet up with people when they could, and at the very least get recommendations about hostels. In fact, they said, they were at that restaurant for a CS meet-up. As more CSers filtered in, I went around the group, meeting people from Australia, Canada, Belgium, and other USAers. People from all across the globe, all with similar passions for travel, all Couchsurfers. They explained that CS not only helped with the cost of traveling, but they also felt they had a better experience in the places they visited when they were more involved with the locals. Plus these different meet-ups allowed them to meet fellow travelers with words of wisdom. And it was where I found a buddy to scope out nearby ruins with the next day! I saw firsthand that night how CS is more than an online platform for traveling, it is a community of members all around the world.
