ABOUT ME
I'm finishing up my PhD in biology (my dissertation is about chemical communication in ants) and transitioning to my next undertaking, which will probably be outside of science. My friends would probably describe me as friendly and academic.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I'm living with my parents as a I finish up my degree, so I can't host surfers at the moment. After graduation, I'm hoping/planning to bike to Washington, D.C., hopefully couchsurfing along the way. Once there, I'm opening up my couch for business.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I'm new.
Interests
I enjoy biking, hiking/backpacking, general outdoor adventuring, crafting, playing board games, reading (mostly non-fiction), cooking (mostly vegetarian), composting, yoga, second-hand shopping (guilty pleasure) and conversation.

Music, Movies, and Books
Books -- I generally prefer non-fiction, especially biographies.
Music -- sometimes I wonder if I was born without the part of the soul that allows one to appreciate music. I don't mind music, but I tend not to seek it out and I'm not especially passionate about any band or genre. I do like to sing, however. And dance. I do neither well.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Perhaps the most awing moment of my life was on a family vacation at the Grand Canyon. At the ranger station we learned that the timing of our trip coincided with the Perseid meteor shower, and so we went to Mather Point at 2am to watch. Next to the velvety dark of the canyon we lay on the rocks and watched uncountable meteors streak across the clear desert sky.
