ABOUT ME

I like to help other people cook.
As a kid I had a doorknob collection, a tire collection, a shingle collection, and had recurring dreams about tires and floor tiles -- Just being honest.
I appreciate things that are simple, barebones, durable, and made to be fixed, but I do like to fiddle with odd, intricate, complicated gadgets and electronics. However, I don't see the sense in relying on them or forming an irreversibly dependent society around them. This, obviously, is not exclusively the way I live, but something to aim for.

PHILOSOPHY

I gain energy from a long lived purpose that invigorates me and improves the world. Something I'll never get tired of and something I can always build on.

Interessen

I enjoy backpacking in the mountains, canoeing the BWCA and area WI rivers, biking around town, sailing my old 18' IL boat, and rebuilding my previously-condemned house. I like the history of residential building and architecture and I collect and restore antique radios. I veg garden, fix stuff, experiment with the things I can't fix, and contra dance when there is time. Lastly, I love to travel extremely low budget with minimal planning, especially with people who can see the wisdom in that sort of flexibility!

Musik, Filme und Bücher

NPR's "The Current" and classical network, Community Radio WORT, Democracy Now and BBC news, dub, Latin and other world music, some kinds of folk music, and bluegrass. Random examples: They Might Be Giants, The Shins, Uncle Earl, Animal Collective, The Police, The Ditty Bops, and Screamin Cyn Cyn and the Pons if I'm in the right bad mood.
