About Me

Hey there👋 Ethan, pleasure to meet ya. I'm from Chicago originally but settled in Amsterdam a few years ago after a long bout of travel. I’m currently pursuing my Master’s in agriculture and environmental policy🧑‍🌾.

I love going to concerts/raves, hiking, running, powerlifting -- pretty much anything that keeps me moving. A mantra of mine: "why not, I'll try anything six times". I'm keen to try most anything and don't mind being flexible with others' sleep or work schedules. I'm very much into my hobbies and love sharing them with others. I was a chef for a few years, so always willing to help cook a meal or try local eats.

I look forward to meeting up, and hey, if not, have a g'day!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

All of my best traveling experiences have been because of the generosity of locals – I definitely don't take that for granted! While I really enjoy meeting other travelers at hostels, sometimes the pressure to party is a lot. I'm trying to take things a bit slower during my travels this time around and really dive into the places I visit. I am looking for somewhere to move after all haha.

Music, Movies, and Books

I've played jazz and blues piano for years, but more recently got into producing electronic music. I love discovering tracks of all genres and live music from raves to symphonies.

I really dig all kinds of weird and experimental movies especially psychedelic stuff, animated films, and horror.

As a student, I read a lot of books on philosophy, international development, and economics. Love a good debate. My favorite book is Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, for sure.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I ran a marathon and only went through two pairs of underwear!

Teach, Learn, Share

Always love to teach what I know about cooking and learn about what you cook at home!

I’m B1 in Dutch and Spanish and fluent in English, so happy to exchange in any of these languages.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I've taught English a few times at home and abroad - I'll teach you all the bad words and phrases normal English teachers won't haha. I've also been a tennis instructor and piano teacher. The cooking stuff too!

Countries I’ve Visited

Bahamas, Belize, Canada, Israel, Mexico, Spain
