About Me

Perhaps I should start with work since that's what I spend most of my time doing. I'm self-employed -- a website remodeling consultant for small business owners -- and I absolutely love what I do. It affords me the flexibility to work from different places and practically guarantees I spend most of my time meeting new and interesting people who are working to build something.

When I'm not working, I am usually eating or working on finding something to eat; Whether that means cooking (which I thoroughly enjoy), or exploring the nooks and crannies of a town, village, or city looking for something delectable to consume.

I also like to write, and read, and chit-chat. I enjoy a good party every now and then but generally stay too busy to plan my life around them.

I grew up moving around, and find it pretty easy to get along with just about anyone. Sometimes this is a good thing and I find myself an accidental honorary member of a random yacht club, sipping whiskey with a local sea captain. Other times my trusting nature gets me in trouble and I find myself stuck in traffic beside an irritable gang-leader or bribing a crazy person with candies in exchange for my life.

Despite this, or perhaps because of it, I love to travel and meet new people.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I actually love the concept and end up "surfing" but in an unofficial capacity on most of my trips. I think it's amazing the way the web is bringing people together and opening up avenues like this to meet others from around the world and am excited to be part of it.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Have you heard of Pirate Metal?... Just kidding, though I do have a pretty eclectic taste in music. Everything from Blues to Jazz to Hiphop, Rock, and some of the sultry stuff, I'll listen to different things depending on what I'm doing.

Movies: If I had to choose three movies to take with me to a desert island they'd be The Princess Bride, and then probably two backup copies of The Princess Bride because I'm always losing my damn copy of that movie. Seriously, if you haven't seen it do yourself a favor and go watch it. I also really like the story-telling process so any movie that focuses heavily on story -- like the Lord of the Rings, Stardust, Secret Life of Walter Mitty, and anything from Pixar -- is high on my list. Big fan of old action movies and some newer action movies and anything with Robert Downie Junior in it because he's kind of the man.

Books: For a long time I was heavily immersed in non-fiction and read things like The 4-Hour Workweek, Think and Grow Rich, The $100 Startup, and The Power of Focus which revolutionized my business. Recently I've been diving back into fiction and have fallen in love with books like The Alchemist, Life of Pi, Sherlock Holmes and even some Sci-fi stuff like The Martian which I think was very well done.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm a decent cook and love sitting down for meals with new people. On a slightly more valuable level, I'm supposedly ranked among the top 3% of web developers in the world and have a deep background in entrepreneurship and small business. So if you're entrepreneurially minded we can have some awesome conversations about your business, and if you're interested in a medium-term work-trade I've been known to build websites in exchange for housing.
