I love to travel, and explore the outdoors. I think that people around the world are generally good, and I love meeting them! I'm interested in politics. When I was a kid I memorized (most of) the world's capitals. I guess that makes me a little nerdy!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've really enjoyed meeting people through Couchsurfing, mainly just in the US. It's been a fun way to get to know people on the road! I have hosted in my former hometown in Maine, too.

Interests

News, politics, travel, hiking, kayaking, bicycling, live music, good food. I love to cook and converse, maybe with a nice microbrew.

Music, Movies, and Books

Lately I've been reading a lot of social theory. Not a lot of time for novels in graduate school, I'm finding!

Movies: Papillion (a good book too), anything by the Coen Brothers.

Music: Jazz, Morphine, Turkish-inspired Russian pop, occasional classic rock.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Witnessed a coup in Kyrgyzstan as it happened, and as it crumbled.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach anyone how to make (at least) ten different kinds of fantastic popcorn, or some really inventive omelets.

I can also advise on how to get good English teaching jobs in the former Soviet Union, land a job crewing on a sailboat, or hitchhike through Japan.

I'd like to learn how to write shorthand.
