About Me

Hi! my name is Étienne, I am 19 years old and I live in Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada. I am currently studying Political Science and International Relations in Sherbrooke University. I chose this field of study because I am passionate about the world and its wide range of cultures and ways of life. Therefore, I love travelling, discovering new places and meeting people from all over the planet!

In my free time, when I'm not pondering about what part of the world I should travel to next, I love going outside, trekking, cooking, reading, getting out of my comfort zone and hanging out with friends and cool people.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

While on a trip to Viet Nam during which I stayed with like-minded Vietnamese university students and had the time of my life, I learned that you can't truly discover a place if you don't get in touch with its inhabitants. I feel like Couchsurfing is an opportunity to open up your mind to the world by bringing you together with people in a way that is not possible while staying in a hostel, for example.
I also believe that Couchsurfing allows for tremendous learning experiences since it makes it possible to meet people so different from yourself, which in my opinion is truly amazing.

Music, Movies, and Books

MUSIC:
I listen to pretty much everything, from jazz, to rap, to rock. However, my favorite bands at the moment are the following:
Cage the Elephant
The Black Keys
The Foo Fighters

BOOKS:
I love books that tell a story from which it is possible to extract life lessons or deeper meanings. Therefore, I like dystopian novels, like George Orwell's "1984" or Ray Bradbury's "Fahrenheit 451". One of my all-time favorite books, however, is Anna Moï's "Riz noir", which poetically tells the life story of two girls during the Vietnam War.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One moment in my life that stands out to me was when I went diving and swimming in the middle of Ha Long Bay, Viet Nam. Breathtaking scenery, surprisingly hot water and amazing friends -- what more could I ask for ?

Teach, Learn, Share

Cooking -- I love discovering new food cultures and recipes and showing what I know.
Languages -- They fascinate me. I'm trying to learn Spanish, at the moment, and I can teach French or English!
Experiences -- Getting out of my comfort zone and sharing experiences with friends and strangers is, for me, an essential part of traveling. I'm pretty much up for everything!
