About Me

23 years old

Sometimes funny, sometimes socially awkward;

Kind of a lazy student with bursts of motivation from time to time. Currently preparing for my masters.

Got accepted for a year in exchange at UBC Vancouver (still can't fucking believe my luck!)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

When I travelled and stayed in Glasgow, I realized how little I had met people from real different backgrounds..

My first natural inclination is to stay by myself but it is now clear to me that I'm usually a better person when I meet new people: so feel free to come and join me. I'll try my best to make your visit pleasant !!

Interests

I said sports:
I don't really enjoy watching or following sports. Tbh I think I don't even know the rules of most team sports. Put me in front of people playing football/soccer and I'll be lost. I like to practice but I'm not very regular when I try : jogging from time to time.

I said Scotland:
Since I left Scotland after a year in exchange, my interest for it grew increasingly to the point that it is now a part of my master's thesis subject! I love the history of industrial lowland Scotland, of Scottish migration to America and Canada, the history of the Empire in a Scottish perspective and the intellectual history of Scotland in the 18th C.

I said foreign languages:
Learning english at school was a real pleasure and the fact that I'm still struggling to speak and write coherently gives me even more certainty that I should keep languages as one of my main interests! Also I learned Spanish because with my ancestry I was expected to know how to speak it but I'm really hopeless on this subject...

I said chickens:
Well... I raised chickens by myself when I was younger and that might sound stupid but I think it taught me a little bit about care and taking others into consideration (those were just for ornament, we never killed any of them). Also, and by extension, I like the wildlife and especially birds.

I said history:
Except Scotland, I like western ancient history and the French middle ages. I loved to work on castles and the concept of feudalism applied to Europe when I was studying in Scotland!

I said role-playing games:
Played a few games of the Call of Cthulhu with some friends and it was a lot of fun! I prepared to be master myself and try my own scenario but by that time it was too late to make the whole bunch meet up again so if you want to give it a try ;)

I said video games:
I'm kind of a fake gamer/real noob. I almost never finished a game but I keep being attracted to it. I progressed for some time in Dark Souls II (and oh yeah, just like for TV shows I don't get up to dates with new games on purpose) and now I'm trying my luck on FTL. Sometimes, I try a little bit of emulation on megadrive or SNES. Also I like shows ABOUT video games: I'm a huge fan of Benzaie's youtube channel (you know the french dude who used to be on ThatGuyWithTheGlasses)

I said culture:
going to museums, attending conferences when I can/if I can, when I want if I want... Sounds obnoxious to say you have it (culture) so let's say I'm just attracted to it.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music:

I've grown up with my mother's music and to this day, I love disco and soul much more than she does nowadays. I love Delegation, Shalamar, Arabesque, the classics (Earth,W&F, Kool&theGang but please no more Boney M!)
I suppose by association, I like electronic music that keeps some sort of link with that tradition: all synthpop, nu disco is my thing then. You've guessed it: when it comes to music I'm a nostalgic!

I like Hong Kong action movies. I love movies that are so bad they're good (all Jean-Claude Van Damme's filmography's basically) I like Sci-fi (the fountain, Alien -but ONLY the first and the second one) I like more 'artsy' movies (like to cry a lot in front of Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind) I'm also into TV Shows (the Wire) and animes (Monster)

I don't have a single kind of book and tbh I'm not a very quick reader either. Right now, I'm reading Dawkins's 'The God Delusion'

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

That's not impressive but I made a 35 hours bus trip between Toulouse and Glasgow, once.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can give some help for those who wish learn French

I can discuss some history (if I know anything about the period you're interested in)

I can share beers and laughter and I suppose that's the most important thing in this section.
