About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Consume as many calories through Acaí and salgados as possible. Also, meet as many awesome people and learn as much about life as I can. And get my master´s degree.

ABOUT ME

23 years old and totally loving it. In Rio de Janeiro for 2 years studying my masters in Geography. I used to be a public health lobbyist in DC and still love politics, no matter the country. (Election year in Brazil!)

I love dancing--samba, forro, salsa, jumping up and down hipster style, whatever it is. If it's good music it's going to be a good time.

I came to Rio because I am so excited about Brazil. I'm fascinated about the way this country is going to influence the world in the future--especially the crazy cool stuff coming out of their universities.

Also, I learn by talking, dancing, and singing Lady Gaga with as many different people as possible. I studied international affairs, but the best way to learn about the world is to meet the people living in it. The smile exchanged when something is communicated even when languages don't match is maybe the coolest thing in the world. Not going to lie, it's also pretty rad when you are able to communicate effectively in a new language.

I love meeting new people. Even more, I love partying with new people. But more than all I like getting to know different perspectives on the same awesome experience that we're all sharing: life.

I am up for the beach at any moment. I really really want to learn how to play beach volleyball and futevolei and outside of final exams, am pretty much always up for a chopp.

PHILOSOPHY

Ask questions. Life's far more interesting that way.

Also, people are awesome until proven not awesome. Some people are not awesome, but they have to work hard to show that.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I just joined, unfortunately, my apartment, while kick ass, has like zero furniture, so I can't really host people at the moment (funds are limited with scholarship etc.). However, the lack of furniture does offer ample space for good parties.

Given that, I want to meet as many CouchSurfers as possible and get to know this city in a whole new way.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I just joined and haven't been too active. But I have soo many friends who have been telling me to get on for years so I know people who love couchsurfing. I will live vicariously through their experience for the moment.

Interests

Music, dancing, independent films, geopolitics, the production of space, economics, the beach, gay nightlife in Rio, becoming outdoorsy (you know, one of those people that camps and stuff), politics politics politics, sexual and gender rights, learning how to: cook, play piano, and play futevolei, cheap flights, cool people, good beer, cheap prato feitos, public transit, entrepreneurship, air conditioning (during the summer), religion, health, anything you want to talk about.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: Tommy Boy, Transamerica, Angels in America, Mamma Mia, all those cool independent ones that I've seen but I forget their names. (But really, I've seen them!)

Music: There is Lady Gaga, then there is everything else, which includes a wide gamut ranging from the Dixie Chicks to the Veronicas to The Killers, Coldplay, Abba, Queen, La Roux, Beyonce, Madonna (I know, I wish I was cool an into underground music but I really like this stuff).

Books: Anything historical written by a journalist. In that vein, the World's Banker and King Leopold's Ghost are two great titles. One of my recent favorites is Maps and Civilization--bet you had no idea how our conceptions of the world were developed!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I went bungee jumping off a bridge in Argentina once. Also, one time my friend at school picked up one of those freaky ants that carry halves of leaves and let it bite my sweater--its pincers were so strong that when he pulled it, the head ripped off. That was Discovery Channel worthy.

That's about it.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am so full of wisdom it's difficult to pinpoint my particular points concentration. But, should we meet, know that my goal will be to learn as much about you as possible. In the process, as many of my friends have told me, you will likely learn something about yourself. I think I have that to offer, if nothing else.
