About Me

I'm a US transactional attorney that specializes in startups and small companies. I'm also a lifelong programmer with a focus on web application development and server infrastructures. I speak internationally at conferences to share modern development techniques.

I grew up traveling and have lived in a number of decent areas around the world. I LOVE people, culture and food. I try to get out of the country at least 9 months out of the year. The fact that I can work remotely lends itself well to that lifestyle.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

What better way is there to experience the culture? Hotels are brutal and rarely situated in a place to experience the true culture of a country. When I travel - I travel for the people.

Interests

Experiencing the true culture of a place. I love language barriers I love trying new foods. I love experiencing how people actually live.

Music, Movies, and Books

Big Lebowski. Period. Full Stop.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I'm currently incubating a law related technology startup to empower solo attorneys, as they have the greatest impact in lowering the costs of representation and increasing access to justice, especially in rural areas.

Teach, Learn, Share

Modern multiculturalism, especially in the central urban cities, is actually a sterilization of culture. Get out of the main cities, go into the villages - not only will you find the people more hospitable and willing to share their culture and life with you, but you'll avoid seeing the life through a "lens."

What I Can Share with Hosts

As a direct quid pro quo, I have a number of skills that are often inaccessible or too expensive for many people. I'm a lawyer, business consultant, engineer, server architect and web developer. I would LOVE to help out in any way I can. I have a JD, specializing in rule of law in developing nations and an MBA in IT / Operations Management. I can help with pretty much any technological issue from personal computers, to websites to large scale distributed computer systems.

That - or I would love to just enrich each other with deep and meaningful conversation. I also love eating, and would love to treat my hosts to a wonderful meal. :) I firmly believe in reciprocity and our shared existence. If there's some way I can help - just ask!

As an example - I had a friend in Malaysia who was starting a tour company. I helped him setup a website to increase his visibility with his international customers.
