ABOUT ME

I'm a 24 traveller and programmer from Sydney, Australia. I love statistics, maths, economics, politics, music, film, culture, sports... a lot of things. I find I can be interested in anything, especially if the person conversing with me is passionate about the subject. I also love to get out at night (or day) and party, as well as consume good food and drink, shake it on a dance floor or chill on a couch watching Rick and Morty.

PHILOSOPHY

Logic and the quest for new experiences drive my actions in equal parts. There are so many different cultures in the world, no one can consume them all. The best way to learn is to communicate with people different from yourself. Get out and see the world, immerse yourself in unfamiliar surrounds and diversify your experiences as much as possible. This is my philosophy!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My couchsurfing cherry remains intact at this moment, however I'm looking for someone to pop it while I travel around Europe looking for a new home. I've had some great experiences using AirBnB but have lately found the vibe to be becoming more commercial, for the worse. I have a sister and some friends who are avid surfers and I've heard many great stories from them.

I like having friendly drinks and talking about movies, current affairs, pop culture. I also like to get out at night time, have a few more friendly drinks and boogie.

Baseball is a passion of mine. I recently went on a tour of China playing for a Sydney baseball club against some Guangzhou based teams. I love pitching and also watching MLB and following stats and sabrmetrics ridiculously closely.

I'm an experienced saxophonist and can strum a guitar while belting out some classic Beatles tunes. I'm a fan of electornica, hip hop, indie and pop music. I'll be hitting some festivals with my friends when summer rolls around this year (damn it's cold right now).

Morceaux de musique, films et livres

Cinema and TV are how I waste my time avoiding real work. Kubrik, Hitchcock, FF Coppola, Tarantino and the Coen brothers changed my life.

Game of Thrones, Rick & Morty, Archer and Westworld are the tip of the TV iceberg on which I float at night. RIP the Colbert Report.

I'm currently reading String Theory by David Foster Wallace and am really enjoying it. Favourite books of mine are The Grapes of Wrath (John Steinbeck), Boyhood + Youth (JM Coetzee), Freedom (Jonathon Franzen) and anything by Roald Dahl.

Une aventure extraordinaire que j'ai vécue

In 2013 I bussed my way up the Malaysian Peninsula from Singapore to Bangkok. Moving from hostel to dorm to hostel, it was the most enjoyable month I've had. Drinks on top of skyscrapers and breathtaking islands and beaches were the highlights. And food, always food.

Enseignez, apprenez, partagez

I can teach people about data, computers, and their importance in the world. Data is everywhere in the world and a basic understanding of the topic can help in personal and professional life to no end. Particular applications I'm in tune with are finance (saving, planning, taxes anyone?), digital advertising, politics (demographics, voting systems), sport (player/team evaluation).

If that doesn't tickle you, I'm also a keen musician and can teach a mean saxophone, recorder or music theory.

Also computer science. I can program in many languages and am generally well versed in the way humans and machines interact. This spans web development, data science, machine learning or just what the hell it is and why its useful!

I'd love to learn more languages. Particularly German & Spanish. Growing up in Australia (a lonely island far, far away), I was not exposed to the multilingual culture of Europe and as such have developed into a shy uni-lingual young adult. It's time to change that.
