ABOUT ME:

Having grown up in inner-city Los Angeles, my exposure to nature was limited to family visits to the Pacific Ocean. What I knew of mountains, forests and rivers came from the books I gravitated toward. Books like Hatchet and Island of the Blue dolphins, all with strikingly similar plots. One existing, against all odds, in the wilderness...

As the son of immigrant parents, who grew up poor in one of the world's largest metropolitan cities, I too exist in the wilderness against all odds.

While a lack of access and exposure once kept me from the outdoors, my relentless determination to visit and climb some of North America's tallest peaks made it possible for me stand atop Washington's Mount Rainier 14,411 ft (4,392 m).

In our lives, many will tell us " You can't", "You shouldn't" or " You won't". Pay those people no attention, as we are our own limiting factors.
