About Me

I was born and grew up in the Dominican Republic. I moved to the United States when I was 14. Because I grew up in a Hispanic culture, I can be pretty outgoing, specially if I am getting to know someone. I love talking with my hands (gesturing). I think I'm funny, but I don't think anyone else does. I have a rich inner thought life, and I enjoy reading extensively.
I am interested in everything (This is not an exaggeration). I've yet to find a topic I'm not interested in (try me). I'm naturally very curious, and that led me to get a Psychology degree (because I love people, and how they think, and how they behave). I am a sensitive person, and I care a lot about people: about how they are feeling and how I can help. I enjoy long conversations, listening to their stories. My faith impacts my entire life, and I am open to others' questions.

What brings me the most joy is sharing experiences with others, whether it be a conversation, a meal, or just playing a board game (I love games!).

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

My husband (Gareth Leake: https://www.couchsurfing.com/people/garethleake) and I are embarking on a year long trip to various countries (starting on August 2017). We wanted to not just travel from country to country, but to meet people who live there, who are willing to tell us their story. We want to also give back, so please allow us to treat you to a drink or a meal! We cook tasty meals :D

Music, Movies, and Books

I listen to anything from Classical Music to Pop music to Folk music. I play Piano and Cello, so I will always love Mozart, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Chopin, Bach and many more. I absolutely LOVE Disney, and all the Disney songs (I can sing pretty much any song featured in a Disney film). My Favorite Musicals are Hamilton, the Phantom of the Opera and Les Miserables.
I watch many TV shows and Movies: Sherlock (BBC), Parks and Rec, Brooklyn 99, and some Netflix shows. For Movies, I enjoy all genres except for horror. Some of my favorite films are the Matrix Trilogy, most Marvel films, About Time, and many romance/action/adventure films. I love movies like Singin' in the Rain (I own the film, because Gene Kelly is amazing!)
I absolutely love reading! (Fun fact: I read the dictionary once, just because). I really enjoy fiction novels, but I enjoy reading and researching pretty much anything (articles online, newspapers, magazines, etc.). My passion for reading knows no bounds. If you have any book recommendations, please let me know! Some of my recent book favorites are the Fox and O'Hare series by Janet Evanovich, "What Alice Forgot" by Liane Moriarty and the Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis. I also enjoy some biographies (most notably Alexander Hamilton by Ron Chernow).
I love anime and manga! I have read most popular manga series, and I am always looking for more suggestions.

I basically am interested in everything... I feel like I always have something in common with others :D

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I went on a road trip across the United States (over 2,000 Miles). I started in Minnesota, and visited Yellowstone National Park, Vancouver (Canada), Seattle, Redwood Forest, Napa Valley, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Yosemite National Park, and many other locations. If you want to hear more about traveling in the United States, I can help with that! I have been to most states in the United States (driving, not flying).

Teach, Learn, Share

I would be happy to teach you Spanish or ASL (sign language). I also love cultural exchanges, so I'd love to share about my Dominican upbringing if you share yours! I can also share my limited knowledge on how to travel the world (as we are in the process of doing that), setting up blogs/websites and starting your own adventure!

What I Can Share with Hosts

My husband and I want to get to know you. We would be more than happy to make a traditional Dominican meal for you, or an American meal (if you prefer). Or we could eat a meal out :D We just enjoy talking to people and hearing their stories and experiences.
