About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Loving, learning, laughing
I like to travel, meet new people, enjoy life!
Some things that are important to me:
Be respectful to every person (or every living being), appreciate diversity and be open to take the opportunity to learn from differences.
I care very much about the environment, am a vegetarian myself mostly because of the impact of eating meat on the environment. I'm also active with the Flemish Young Greens, where I was leading the working group on migration last year. This year I worked in the Student Green Office at my university, trying to make the university a bit more sustainable and infuse it with the green spirit ;) I love nature, walking in the forest gives me so much energy!
Culture, art, music I find very enriching. When I was younger I was making a lot of art myself too (painting, sculptures etc.) and playing the piano, and in Montpellier I sang in a gospel choir. Unfortunately, with my studies and all my other engagements (voluntary work etc) I find it hard to find the time for creativity. To somehow get back to this creative core and create some space in my mind, I do yoga every morning, meditate from time to time and take regular walks in the forest south of Brussels.
My trajectory:
I was born in the Netherlands, moved quite a lot in my childhood with both of my parents (who are divorced) and also travelled quite often, with my father om couchsurfing, hitchhiking, biking holidays... So got the couchsurfing spirit already then! After secondary school, I went to study political science in Brussels, which I did and enjoyed for two years. Then I decided to go on erasmus to Montpellier, a lovely city in the south of France, to enjoy the relaxed Meditteranean atmosphere (which is completely opposite to busy Brussels) and improve my French. After one year I came back to Brussels, for a masters in Political Science.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
When I was younger, I have been on a lot of holidays with my dad and we slept almost always with people from couchsurfing or the hospitalityclub.
After secondary school I hitchhiked with a friend from Geneva to Budapest and we stayed on the way with some members of couchsurfing.
Since that my couchsurfing experience has been rather small, partly due to travelling with friends who preferred to stay in a hostel or appartment.
But I wish to revive this experience! I love this way of travelling, because it gives a real and complete experience of the country and the place you visit and brings you in contact with a lot of new people, their way of life, their worldviews, their interests... In short, it opens you up and makes you rethink your own way of life!
