About Me

I'm a nerdy, transgender person from Dublin. I've got a slight American accent from watching too much television. What else is there to say that doesn't seem more appropriate in another box?

My partner is, almost as nerdy transgender person from... well lots of places. He has an English accents from his parents but he hasn't lived in England for all that long so what does that make you.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

A friend of ours (my partner's too) hosts people regularly and we've really liked meeting the people he has hosted which made the idea of going on this more interesting.

We also really really like travel so the idea of being able to do that cheaply while meeting cool people sounds amazing!

Interests

I love movies, I watch way too many of them, I love the ones that change my perspective on life. I do some counselling on 7 cups of tea. Travel is great fun, really enjoy discovering alternative ways of thinking about life that comes with meeting people of other cultures. I'm also fascinated by geopolitics, I could spend all day reading news about Iran's nuclear program, the elections in the US, internal power structures of North Korea or ISI.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: American History X, Starred Up, Frozen, Despicable Me 2, E-Team (emergency human rights watch group who go out to syria to document war crimes, you have to watch this, it's so gripping)

Books: Political Books, Short stories with strong emotional content, books where it's like our reality except change something and spend lots of time talking about the effect that has on the society

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I went to Egypt right after Mubarak had been outsed as the President of Egypt (March 11, 2011). The people had run the police off the streets and I was there for 11 days, during which I had the most amazing experiences of my life.
I decided to go to Egypt at 4am the previous day, 16 hours later I was in Cairo.
I even met someone who had come from Ben Ghazi (Libya) and they were in the middle of their civil war, I saw protests in Tahrir square, I talked to people who lived in tombs in the city of the dead. I shared a joint and some mint tea with some Bedouin at Giza.

Best 11 days.
