About Me
Hey! I'm a filmmaker / lazy poet / general doofus living in Texas. I'm originally from a small town outside of Boston, MA. We got eight feet of snow one winter in Boston and I decided to throw all my stuff in the car and move to a part of the country where it's not uncommon to find scorpions in your house. But Texas has been incredibly kind to me and has filled me up with love and barbacoa. So - y'know, so far, so good.
By day I work in the film industry as a lugger of gear, pusher of papers, procurer of meals, and general grunt laborer. It's stressful and bizarre and there is - I've tested this - nothing else on Earth I would rather do for a living. Except for: by night I'm a writer/director hoping and hustling to turn Making Movies into a full-time career in the future. I'm almost finished with my first feature film. It's a Surrealist mystery about a cult and a missing woman. Feel free to ask about it if you care, but also feel free not to care! The world is your oyster.
I've traveled a bit before, and met some wonderful folks via CS. I went on a few months' backpacking trip a few years ago, and it's still one of the best, most memory-dense periods of my life. Most of my traveling of the past few years has been within the US - which has been its own kind of adventure.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I had one of these before, but it was tied to my Facebook, and I deleted my Facebook. (Long, dumb story.) I'm heading to San Francisco next week and trying to find some good people who might not mind sharing their home, or even just their evening! If you're in the city and feel like exploring, or showing off your favorite places to a newcomer, or just chatting over a drink or a meal, let me know!

Music, Movies, and Books
Music - I love music that makes me see movies when I listen to it. That tends to be stuff that's kind of cinematic - I love Florence and the Machine, Mogwai, the Knife, Chromatics - but can take a lot of forms. Right now I'm obsessed with Gallant, Kyla la Grange, Joanna Newsom, Rihanna, Secret Pyramid, Mastodon, Sexwitch, Low, Laura Marling, and scores by Clint Mansell and Cliff Martinez.
Movies - all of 'em. Sincerely. Once Upon a Time in Anatolia, Upstream Color, the Wicker Man (the original!), Attack the Block, Citizen Kane, Double Indemnity, Certified Copy, Blow-Up, La Dolce Vita, Primer, Eyes Wide Shut, the Shining, etc. ad nauseum.
Books - the Dark Materials trilogy - if I can write with this kind of sweep and metaphysical grandeur and emotional truth just once in my career, I'll be happy. Love me some Hemingway; poetry by Louise Gluck, Li-Young Lee, Patricia Smith, Niel Rosentalis. Political history's been a recent fascination.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Slept in a storage shed on a roof in Italy during a thunderstorm. That entire stupid day in the Dolomites. Made a feature film on my own dime.
