Overview
About Me
Hi, I'm Evan, a long-term traveler, couchsurfer, hitchhiker, birdwatcher, and snorkeler. I grew up in the Pacific Northwest of North America, but am not really based anywhere anymore.
I'm interested in borders, and I'm sort of trying to visit every country in the world, even though that's kind of silly. On the way, you'll find me counting birds, exploring the landscape, or enjoying the company of people I meet along the way.
I believe Couchsurfing should be for whatever people want it to be, as long as everyone feels safe and there's no money involved. When I can host, you're welcome to use my couch as a free place to crash, and you don't owe me any cultural exchange. Just be respectful and friendly and we're good.
I'm also on Trustroots and BeWelcome, which are non-profit, open-source alternatives to Couchsurfing:

I've actually been on Couchsurfing all the way since 2009 as half of "Mei and Evan", so you can go to that profile to see more of my references:

Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Regular people's lifestyles and expectations seem oppressive to me, and CS makes me feel I'm in relatively good company.
I also like to help other travelers by giving them a free place to stay. It's enough to know they would do the same for me.
Of course learning, friendships, and other special human experiences are also part of traveling, and couchsurfing is great for that too!

Music, Movies, and Books
I'm not judgmental about music genres. I like to sing karaoke, and can play the guitar a little bit. I once had read every Star Wars novel ever published, but now I've fallen way behind on the new ones.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Hitchhiked 3,500 km (2,000 miles) from southwestern Canada through the wilderness to the Arctic Ocean, then another 6,500 km (4,000 miles) back down and across to Toronto.
I've also "boat hitchhiked" (volunteered as crew on sailboats) from Florida to Panama and later around the Bahamas.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach you to hitchhike! Or to speak Mandarin Chinese or Spanish or a little Taiwanese/Hokkien. Or I can teach you birdwatching, or help you identify your local bird species! I can also give tips on how to take good pictures with your phone of things other than people. I sort of study geopolitics for work, so I might also be able to answer some of your questions about the news. And about the Star Wars Expanded Universe, haha.
I want to learn about your language (or local way of talking!), and about boats and sailing, and probably anything else you're an expert in! Need practice driving manual/standard transmission cars.
What I Can Share with Hosts
Encouragement to learn languages, travel more adventurously, and break free of arbitrary social norms! Also happy to wash dishes, haha.
