About Me

CURRENT MISSION - It is not the destination but the journey itself...

Things I like (in no particular order): nature and countryside, mountains, villages, dustroads... the Czech Republic and my hometown... peace and silence... good laugh... trains... music... food-healthy, tasty, exotic, new... autumn leaves... books and good movies, cinema... being with people being alone... life stories... breakfast in the garden or on my balcony... snow and cross country skiing... sun... natural beach... good wine... candles... hiking, cycling, walking... being woken up by birds singing and falling asleep with the sound of a cicada orchestra... artesania... palm trees and banana leaves... Latin America... and more and more...

I can do without: too much traffic... too much noise.. big modern cities... shopping malls... highways and perfect roads... shirts and buttons...

PHILOSOPHY

you have everything you need as long as you have faith... (my old beloved auntie-not originally but they are her words that sound in my ears now she is gone)

do small things with great love (Mother Therese)

don´t wait for the sun to come out, learn to dance in the rain... :)

help doesnt need to be returned... it goes around so just pass it forward...

life is what happens NOW... dont look back to regret or forward to worry... for the moment being you have everything you need... Learn from the past and have faith in the future...
If you want to say or do something, do it now - they aren´t endless many mornings...

there is a time (and a reason) for everything: "a time to be born, a time to die... a time to laugh, a time to cry... " (a famous song but the original version is from the Bible)

Do what you can and leave the rest to God...

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I started by surfing couches, beds, floors, hammocks... for 2 years in Latin America, meeting people with their hearts open - so it´s my turn now to open my door...

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I first joined the Hospitality Club (my HC profile: evason) but I´m not very active there anymore... Both have worked really great for me... a chance to meet people you would probably never meet...

Years ago, before the CS started, I met 2 guys in the Prague underground who seemed quite lost. They had just arrived from Spain and were looking for a place to stay... I had just moved to Prague... so we were three strangers in a city... we started talking and before I even realized they were in my flat, surfing the floor, keeping me company and cheering me up - it was the best start to a new life in a city for me... that was already feeling the CS spirit, I guess...

Interests

just see the list above:)
hiking - I love hills and mountains so I always feel like going "up"... but with my feet safely grounded... cycling and cross-country skiing...

Languages, theatre, literature, history... people... different cultures and countries or places that haven´t been eaten up by consumarism and perfectionism, that still show their human and natural face ...

people and their life stories

travelling - especially natural sites, mountains, remote areas which have not been ruined by tourism yet...
I´m a slow traveller... I can wait at the station or sit in the street, go for a coffee and talk to locals or just observe the life around... and I´m happy...

Music, Movies, and Books

BOOKS - from my well of inspiration:
Coelho (esp. The Alchymist, The Fifth Mount), Hesse (Siddhartha, Narcis and Goldmund), Robert Fulghum, Richard Bach, Exupery (The Little Prince, Citadela), Khalil Gibran (The Prophet), C.S.Lewis, Quien se ha llevado mi queso?...

and any good book - there are so many worth reading... just the life is too short to read them all:) The Bridges of Madisson, Kundera (The Unbearable Lightness of Being, The Joke), O. Wilde (The Picture of Dorian Gray, the tales), Orwel (1984, Animal Farm), Hamingway (The Old Man & the Sea), Nemcova (Babicka/The Grandmother), The Kite Runner, Mrs. Dalloway, The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry...

MUSIC: traditional music of different cultures-folk, gypsy, Balkan, latin american music, bossanova, french chanson... classical music, Czech folk music,
prefer the sound of real instruments, not into electronic music...
My long last favourites: Navarova, KOA, Raduza, Hradistan, Paul Simon...

MOVIES: any good movie, esp. independent movies, a movie that makes you feel good, relaxed or think...
Amelie; Almodovar´s movies (Todo sobre mi madre, Hable con ella..); Black Cat, White Cat; Czech movies; old movies; movies from different backgrounds - Latin America, Iran, India,...
and Mamma Mia:) it´s the only movie that I´ve seen many many times - an easy one that lifts my spirit up when I´m feeling down... Recent ones: Midnight in Paris (Woody Allen), The Bucket List, Shawshank Redemption...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Leaving a secure life, quitting my job and setting off for Latin America years ago... with no fixed plans, very little money... just the faith - the faith that it will all work out somehow... and it did... :)
Volunteering in Nepal
Camino to Fátima & Santiago

Every day can be amazing if we don´t take it for granted but open our eyes and look around...

Teach, Learn, Share

I think we all learn from each other and the whole life is the process of learning... so if there is anything you can teach me I will be happy to learn ... if there is anything I can share with you I will be happy too...

I´d like to learn: to dance salsa, more about photography, to create my own webpage, to cook your favourite meal...
Or perhaps you could teach/show me something I haven´t even thought of...

What I Can Share with Hosts

I´m happy to share my experience and the little I´ve learned so far... my company...
