About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Conquering the world with cartoons, an accordion, and beer

ABOUT ME

Let's see... I am an environmental studies enthusiast, have visited Spain extensively (there's no language box for "rusty!"), lived in China for 4.5 years, work with molluscs at a museum, am a fan of cephalopods, and take part in a lot of local burner events. I paint and draw on everything from coasters to canvas. I'm a homebrewer, and craft beer enthusiast. I've worked beer festivals in the Boston area. I hang out and provide music accompaniment for members of the circus community in Boston. I'm a scifi geek, don't really care about fashion, and most of my road trips involve either art or beer (and inevitably good food!).

PHILOSOPHY

My time living and travelling in China taught me that things often do not turn out the way you plan, and you can either stress out about it, or enjoy the twists and turns that you find when things aren't quite what you expect. (but keep your paperwork in order)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm a newb, so I'm not sure yet. I currently live in a space too small to host, but I hope to change that in the next 8 months.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've crashed on couches and in spare rooms in Spain starting when I was 13. I think the most fun I've had is a 6 week research trip across China in early 2000. Aside from 4 nights in a Hostel in Beijing, i managed to stay with friends, friends of friends, and even elbow my way into a student dorm with a few packs of cigarettes.

Interests

Comics, music, beer, scifi, striped socks, cephalopods, Chinese, drawing, zines, bugs, snails, tea, coffee, spicy food.

Music, Movies, and Books

I read quite a bit... I'm currently reading The Windup Girl, I recently read Unscientific America, I really enjoy NPR and TED talks, I recently saw Black Swan and enjoyed it, I enjoy a lot of different kinds of music, but to pick out a few: Gogol Bordello, Portishead, The Meters, Funkadelic, Deadmau5.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Managed a group of creative folks to make a beer garden in the forest where we served up 70+ gallons of homemade beer from a tree at a speakeasy, complete with a computer query password/login screen to get in, and a guard pink gorilla.

Teach, Learn, Share

I love to talk about fermentation, I can make some pretty great food (and even on a budget), and I can teach folks how to knit. I'm a great language resource for Chinese (Mandarin). I'm trying to learn to say "Please give me a beer" in every language, so if you can help me add one to my list, that would be awesome!
