About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I'm currently living in Bermuda, but travelling with work as well. I'm a teacher for three very lovely kids, and I'm working on editing my first novel.

ABOUT ME

I'm a writer, a philosophy graduate, a feminist and sometimes (after a few beers) a singer. I'll never have enough friends, memories or gin and tonics under my belt, but by God I'll go down trying.

Born in London, but I've travelled all over the world

PHILOSOPHY

I'd always rather be interested than comfortable.

But, like everyone, I also have days where all I want to do is watch TV in bed...

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I stayed with a few awesome people during my travels across Asia and the US. Now that I'm in Bermuda I can offer my sofa to travellers.

Guests: Please, if you're going to request to stay at my place, let me know a little about yourself and why you think we'd get on. Generally speaking, I'm most open to hosting women of a similar age to me. Also, I'm afraid I can only take one person at a time unless you have an air mattress or something.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've stayed with some incredibly interesting people in China, Mumbai, NYC and Burlington, VT. One Chinese friend I made through Couchsurfing got into a top American college after I rewrote his application essays with him, so that was great. In Mumbai I stayed with the coolest girl ever (who's now left the site which is a shame), but she and my friend Grisham and I are all planning on going to Prague together some time soon!

Festivals (I worked as a journalist writing about music festivals, so they're a bit of a passion...)

Parties

The politics of wherever I'm staying

Learning about other people's interests (Seriously. I once spent an hour being taught about drainage systems in 16th Century East Anglia, and I didn't get bored for at least the first 20 minutes...)

Music, Movies, and Books

I love Hesse, Wilde's Dorian Gray followed by Will Self's Dorian, Larkin, Wodehouse, Angela Carter, Waugh (particularly Decline and Fall and Scoop), Saki and Caitlin Moran.

A random-ish selection of music: I Am Kloot, Alt J, David Bowie, Lizzo, Years and Years, Fat Freddy's Drop, Stromae, London Grammar, Billie Ailish, Lou Reed

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Watching several hundred Japanese people do bizarre aerobics exercises in front of the Japanese flag and a perfect view of Mount Fuji, to the accompaniment of a crazy cheery backing tape and the earth-shaking sound of shelling from the next-door American military base.
