Overview
About Me
CURRENT MISSION
to be silly.
ABOUT ME
I'm a twenty-one year old student living in New York City with a passion for writing, literature, art, and video games. I tend to be very shy and softspoken, but I will be engaged and attentive when I get more comfortable (or when you get a shot of hard liquor in me!). I'm the kind of person who likes to read a book on a late Friday night, but I can be silly when I want to.
PHILOSOPHY
I believe that the best thing to do is to never disappoint yourself. I place the individual above all; and I think it's important to find personal happiness before superficial success. Otherwise, I believe in being as silly as possible.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I've traveled extensively as a child with my parents. Now, as an adult, I am more interested in going to places by myself, exploring the local culture, and having someone from the area explain to me how they feel and exist in the place, not by some tour guide. I am a willing host, and an even more willing traveler.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
My first CouchSurfing experience was in Montrèal, QC. It was the best week I have ever spent in my lifetime, and I plan to return whenever possible. However, that trip has sparked a craving to go to new places--and now I wish to go everywhere.
Interests
I'm interested in literature of all kinds, but mainly European fiction and scientific non-fiction. I'd like to specialize in either Victorian literature or post-WWII American literature, but anything inbetween is just fine, too. I like reading about diseases and love, and I know that's a very strange combination. Besides literature, I'm a writer, mostly short stories, but I aspire to write the next great American novel--who doesn't want to do that? Delusional humor aside, I love languages, and have recently taken quite well to French. Lastly, I play an absurd amount of video games. I love RPGs and Action Adventures; ask me about a game, and chances are I've either played it or know about it.

Music, Movies, and Books
Movies will include anything that's cinematically beautiful; I'm a very visual-oriented person who focuses more on aesthetics than anything else. I love The Fall, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Paris, je 'taime, A Very Long Engagement, Breathless, Confetti, any Darren Aronofsky and Wes Andersen movie.
For music, Grizzly Bear is my favorite band, followed by Animal Collective, Deerhunter, The Antlers, Andrew Bird, Patrick Wolf, Broken Social Scene, Twin Shadow--it's best to view all my musical tastes at my last.fm. It's at http://www.last.fm/user/cuethecurtains.
And books! I love Lolita (anything by Vladimir Nabokov, really), Madame Bovary, Lady Chatterley's Lover, A Call to Arms, The Metamorphosis, The Overcoat, House of Leaves, The Jungle, etc. I also really like to read trashy romance novels, because I'm a girl.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Camping. I've never camped before. Sure, it was by a lake in northern Pennsylvania, and sure, it wasn't a real camp but a loghouse cabin, but you know what? I've never been that close to nature before. And I think I'd quite like to try the real thing--camping. Fishing. Cooking things over a campfire. Slapping away mosquitoes. I might be romanticizing the point, but I think for someone so tangled up in technology, stepping away and being so close to the wilderness is refreshing.
