About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Doing my tiny bit to make the world a better place

ABOUT ME

I moved to Australia from South Africa some 12 years ago. Although I appreciate the first world with all its safety mechanisms, I miss my beloved Africa where being human("ubuntu")is all-important: I am a person through other people. Here in Aussie people lead such protected, sanitised, materialistic, consumerist, insular lives. In Africa, often in the absence of material wealth, you have to rely on people to get you through.

PHILOSOPHY

We are here for short while. Humility befits the human condition. Nelson Mandela is my role model.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I would like to offer a couch occasionally. I am single--so don't expect me to cook or to clean up after you!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Little

Interests

Wide variety: Both intellectual pursuits (wide reading, mostly non-fiction) as well as active pursuits like hiking in nature and lots of sport; TV documentaries (but some junk in there as well!) Hell, you can't intellectualise all the time!

Music, Movies, and Books

Mostly art-house movies, non-fiction, light classical. But then again, traditional African music Ladysmith Black Mambaso, Johnny Clegg), folk music, and country music stir me. Hell, anything goes..evn the odd bit of rap music!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Seen a good part of the world. Despite our many differences, there is more that bind humans that what divide us.

Teach, Learn, Share

Each person, culture, tribe, religion, political party have a valid reason why they see things in that particular light. Even if you dramatically disagree with some of these views, at least try to understand where they are coming from.
