About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I took a sabbatical in April 2017 for disaster relief work with All Hands Volunteers. While immersed in the destruction caused by Irma & Maria in the Caribbean, I decided to leave a 10 year IT career to pursue my interest in full-time volunteer humanitarian work.

I switched gears in 2019, looking inward at a wellness retreat for a year before returning to volunteer at a Camphill Village. I learned to weld, play guitar, cared for people on hospice, went to some mortuary school and I've been working running a saw again for months now.

ABOUT ME

I like to be friends in real life and I love to travel (is my original CS answer). Right now I am in the midst of a major transition; seeking space and variety.

PHILOSOPHY

Take it easy.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Haven't participated much but I would like to dive deeper into the community to expand my social circle.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My Dad is a hugely active member on Craigslist. He went around the world, has hosted many friends from this trip in our family home and spoken about his part in the community on public radio. I have only stayed with a few hosts but had a great time. In the past I was more used to staying alone than interested in sharing.

Interests

I love being outside. I'm interested in learning to rock climb and hope to play a lot of pond hockey this winter.

Music, Movies, and Books

I don't watch a lot of television but like to learn something when I do. I have a funny relationship with music beyond a very particular songbook (which is a wild story in itself); we could talk about it some time. I am predominantly a research reader who considers fiction audiobooks on long drives.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Wonder is the result of everything I do and experience, most people I've met and everywhere I've been. Our lives are truly astonishing (says my young profile drafting self). At the moment I feel that every time we can redirect our reactions to responses in love, we're amazing.

Teach, Learn, Share

I feel so conversationally shy in Spanish. I could guide some guitar and I think it's really fun to cook together.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'll share a kind and empathetic ear and open heart. I love to listen. My presence is calm, pleasant and assured; I like to spend time independently and together.
