About Me

After graduating from the University of Alaska Fairbanks, I advanced to working at the Geophysical Insitute. Combined the time in school and working for the university it is now ten years.

For ten years I have been lucky to live in Alaska and travel within the far north for work and pleasure.
In summer I enjoy going on backpacking trips and lots of biking.

When I was a student in summers I used to guide multiday sea-kayak expeditions out of Seward and the Kenai Fjord National Park. In recent years when I have time off it is saved to particular trips, I want to accomplish, like three years ago I paddled with friends from Cordova to Seward (about 300 km). The next year was a kayak trip from Seward to Kodiak about 400 km over two weeks with two long 40 km crossings each. These both were wild trips but lots of adventures, wildlife ( bears, orcas you name it:) and so many memories that I will cherish forever.

In spring 2019 I had the opportunity to bikepack with my brother through Slovenia, Austria and the Italian Dolomites. The trip was amazing in so many ways; great Balkank cuisines, fantastic scenery and hearing for the first time the koo-koo bird, in Austria.

During the winter weekdays, I fatbike (special bike for snow ) to the nearby university for a mostly desk job. and in evenings explore the vast snowy trail network around my place. On weekends and holidays, I aim for cool winter trips to either remote cabins, hot springs or both. Fairbanks has an abundance of hot springs and the northern lights are frequently out it is hard to choose!

Two years ago I built my own sauna outside the house that I am proud of. The sauna is woodfired with large windows to lookout at that night sky, and on those cold nights, it will warm your heart :)

The cold nights are also great for staying at home and cooking with friends.

PHILOSOPHY
Enjoy the Alaska wilderness with friends and family while we can

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

When traveling I enjoy meeting locals and experiencing the real vibe and not the artificial one offered by commercial vendors. As such I enjoy also hosting those vagabonds and at far north home under the aurora night.

Interests

I am an avid hiker, cyclist (mountain, road and recently snowbiking also known as fatbiking). During winter Fairbanks is a prime destination to fatbiking and I try to ride every day.
Enjoy firing my outside sauna pizza nights
And trips to remote cabins... winter here is not boring...

In summer sea-kayaking trips out of Seward and the Gulf of Alaska are my preferred ventures. Some of my kayaking trips include kayaking from Cordova to Seward and Seward to Kodiak to name a few.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Two years ago on my sea kayak paddle from Seward to Kodiak, we were paddling through some big swells when three orcas decided to swim toward us. Not only did they aim to us, they were f* jumping out of the water as they were closing the distance on us, scaaaaarrry!!!!! Tossed by large swells and orcas out of the water aiming for you- the experience was exhilarating to say the least.... We decided to paddle away (yeah sure we can outpace orcas :) eventually, they headed to a passage between islands as we aimed for deeper water, and left us in extase....
