About Me

Whenever I can, I love to travel and meet new people (unfortunately rarer since I've started work a year ago). I have a strong personal belief that morality grows out of the unending pursuit of progress, and the application of kindness learnt from empathy.
Perhaps motivated by a recognition of my own mortality, I am in a phase of life where I am always trying to create or capture something fleeting in life and my memories - through friendships, writing, photography - and would love for you to be a part of this lifetime pursuit.

When I'm not travelling, I enjoy reading, films and music, all things with the power to bring me on a different texture of exploration. I love taking portraits when I travel - check out my profile to see the amazing hosts that I've had the fortune of meeting thus far (there's space for yours) :)

A few months ago, I embarked on a personal journey to document and appreciate the beauty inherent in the everyday occurrences where I am based in Singapore - strangely, viewing the familiar through a viewfinder highlights an entirely different dimension of society. If you have never been to Singapore before, I hope to convey a little bit of that through this project - let me know what you think! https://www.instagram.com/j.pezg?igsh=MWRpMWF3dmpkdHQ5Yw==

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I want to make new friends and explore other cultures. I'm a strong believer of the idea that there is always something to be learnt from others, particularly regarding their way of life and their reasons for them. While conventional tourism has its place and utility in our world, I've learnt that it isn't something that excites me so much as getting to understand and witness another person, another life, another culture.

Favorite travel story (for now!):
In 2022, a bowl of cheap noodles at a random street vendor in Hoi An somehow led to a serendipitous friendship with a couple who had to share the one unoccupied table with me. After hanging out over the next couple of days, we fleetingly kept in contact over the next few years until I visited them again in 2024 - my next trip to Vietnam is to attend their wedding in 2025 and I am massively honoured.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies - Postmodern, Noir, Criterion Collection, anything that makes me think or feel.
Watching film analysis after a movie is more than half the fun, getting to see the layers of meaning I missed out on and develop a better understanding of what I missed.
My favorite discovery recently is La Haine.

Last book I loved: From Dawn to Decadence, Jacques Barzun. I'm still grappling with the ideas of culture and historical developments, but I love anything that makes me think.

I love almost any genre of music, every song fits an occasion. Recently, my favourite bands have been The Warning, Wasia Project and Nation of Language. If we meet, I will ask you what song best defines you so be prepared!

Cooking - I can cook you a simple meal with Asian influence if you'd like
Drinks - Coffee, Craft beers, Cocktails, Whiskey
Food - a massive part of culture, please help me understand how food fits into yours. Always down to try anything at least once!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

My proudest achievement this year is completing my first essay on the moral code of progress. For me, this is a lifelong project with many more parts to come but if you're at all intrigued I'm very happy to send you a copy.

Teach, Learn, Share

As the cliché goes, all of us travellers are students of life. I consider myself incredibly fortunate to be blessed with so many wonderful teachers and lessons over the last 7 years, since I discovered the joy of solo travelling and connecting with others.

I would never call myself an expert in anything, but as a deeply curious individual, I am very happy to exchange my culture, thoughts, and beliefs with you - perhaps we can teach each other a thing or two (even if it takes a couple of beers for the epiphanies to start flowing)!

Travelling for me is about meeting new people and connecting on a fundamental level across our shared humanity. By learning about others and empathizing with their cultures and beliefs, I gain perspective on myself, and get to share in this wonderous experience we call life, even if its just for a day. What makes experiences special is having someone to share it with, and however long it lingers in their memory, no one can take away its fundamental nature from the history of our world. Life is absurd, but so are we; all of us weird creatures ultimately need to find our way forward for however long we are here :).

If we get to meet, I will gladly offer my company in shooting, cooking, mixology, writing, and of course, talking. Your choice!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm open minded to learning more about your culture and music, and I promise to follow any house rules you have.

Promise I'm good company for anything 😌
