About Me

I am a math professor at the university of Florence and just started living in this city.
Yes, math, seriously :) and I love it!

Besides this, I am a scuba diver who uses any excuse to travel far to drop in different seas and carry a very heavy photographic equipment to shoot pictures of tiny tiny sea creatures :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Breaking the routine and discover the world through people.

Travelers are usually super happy and in a good mood when visiting a new place and this mood is literally contagious.

Interests

I had the fortune to dive in many places including Philippines, Australia, Thailand and Mexico.
But you would be surprised of how beautiful can be also down the mediterranean sea!

I also love photography. I was actually more active when I was living in Berlin doing street photography.
Right now I usually only shot underwater.
But give me an excuse and I take my reflex with me!

While in Berlin I started going to drawing meetups, both life drawing (yeah naked women posing, but also men! :)) and portrait drawing. Artists keep saying my drawings are good, that this is my way to see reality ... I keep telling them they are too nice :)

Finally ... mathematics. You can't choose to become a mathematician unless you love it. People keep asking me what i research in mathematics. I keep trying to find a way to explain this. I will probably confuse your ideas even more, but you will not miss the passion which drives me!

Music, Movies, and Books

My preferred book is Orwell's 1984 and I really much like this author in general. In the last years I have started reading science-fiction books and I come to love Asimov.

I like to listen to any kind of music and dance techno when possible, love Pink Floyd as everyone else and sing Fabrizio de Andre (an italian song writer) when I wash dishes.

Movies? Everything worth watching! :)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Diving during the night among sharks in the great barrier reef!
Swam among whale sharks in the Philippines and in Mexico.
Played with baby sea lions while diving in Mexico.
Watched humbpack whales jumping out of the sea in Mexico.
Blackwater diving in the Philippines.
Diving with bull sharks and tiger sharks in Mozambique.
Swim among oceanic blacktip sharks in South Africa.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I am mainly hosting, so I can tell you what I can share with guests.

I am pretty much new to Florence, so I will probably discover places with you. I am not new to couchsurfing since I have done it a lot in Berlin, so I know exactly what a guest need.

During the week I usually work in the day, although my schedule is flexible.

Anyway I am always free in the evening for dinner and/or a drink and sometimes even in the morning.

I can surely cook italian pasta for you and I appreciate if you want to cook something special from your country.
