À propos de moi

CURRENT MISSION

Currently on around-the-world trip for 10 months

ABOUT ME

I'm 26 and grew up in San Antonio, Texas. Because of this I love Tex-Mex and similarly spicy cuisine above all else (Hint: I can make some of it for you if hosted!)
I'd describe myself as an easy going, funny, adventurous and nerdy guy. Apart from my nerdy interests, I'd say I'm very much a guys guy...I love playing competitive sports, being outdoors, getting dirty, drinking (I was brewing my own beer previously), and being handy.
Basketball has been my passion since I was 4 years old, but since I'm 5'10 and average athleticism, it can't be my profession. I've worked as a data analyst since graduating in 2010 because it was easy for me, paid decently, and let me work from home a lot (also didn't have the will to spend another 5 years in school getting a PhD in Behavioral Economics)... but the job wasn't challenging and the work environment was dull at best with no interaction with interesting people. I'm hoping I can find something I'm interested in that I can be paid to do while we're traveling.
I've lived in Austin the past 9 years and want to see what life is like outside the States.
I love learning, particularly about new cultures, history, foods, and nature.
I'm happiest just sitting out with my dog, chatting with friends, and a pint (or 3...).

PHILOSOPHY

Try anything once, learn as many useful new things as possible

Pourquoi je suis sur Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Before my trip I didn't know about CouchSurfing until just before I departed, a good friend of mine recommended I look into it due to my budget limitations and desire to get to know the communities I'd be visiting rather than just other tourists. As soon as I've finished my travels, I plan on hosting other travelers so they can also get a real feel for my community, wherever that may be ;)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have yet to be hosted, but did give a ride when we had a rental car for a week in the Highlands.

Une aventure extraordinaire que j'ai vécue

Recently? Quiting my job, selling everything I own, and setting out to explore this planet until I'm out of money

Enseignez, apprenez, partagez

Above all else I love to teach, learn and share culinary skills. Food is such a great way to connect, especially when you know what you're doing in the kitchen!
Another area of interest for me regarding teaching, learning and sharing is behavioral economics. It's not as bad as it sounds, its basically just observing, hypothesizing, and testing theories about how people react to situations. I love discussing and observing the impact ones culture and social norms has on their response.
Also, I'm a pretty tech savvy guy, so would be more than happy to help you with any computer/network issues you may be having, setting up a home audio system, or anything like that.
Lastly, I'd love to teach more people how to play bridge so grandmothers aren't the only people around to play it with. Once you've learned it and get decent enough at it, all other card games will be too boring to play.
