About Me

My name is Fanny, and I am 27 years old. I grew up in the French countryside, always having animals by my side. Injustice has always been unbearable for me, which is why I decided to study human rights and finished my Master’s degree in 2014. Since then, I worked in a Belgian non-profit organization which aims to guarantee equal rights for all Belgium residents. Ethically, this job was very interesting - but it also made me realize that I was not made for having a 9 to 5 office job. I’m always craving for outdoors activities and nature. Also, I could not think about something more satisfying than to use my hands to concretely serve a purpose I truly believe in.
I’ve always had a true love for animals of all kinds. I became a vegetarian when I was 13, after I told my parents I could not eat the friends I grew up with. I’ve been vegan for quite some time now and am growingly concerned about the outraging animal condition in our world.

Bertrand, my boyfriend, is 33 years old. He just stopped working in an organic store in Brussels – since he was 18, he has had all kinds of jobs and has always been working very hard to support himself. Because he wants to get out of this vicious circle made of harassing jobs, he also did everything he could to learn more about things he has a real interest in. That is why he went through a training to learn about permaculture, and also began an apprenticeship in a tattoo shop.
His story with veganism is quite different than mine: before he went vegan, about six years ago, he was a huge meat-eater and loved dairy and eggs. But as soon as he became aware about the excruciating animal condition, he became vegetarian, and soon after, vegan. Because he is genuine person, his ethics prevailed on his dietary preferences and he could not overlook the truth about them. He now loves to cook super yummy vegan dishes!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

We’ve been thinking about getting away from our European routine for quite some time now. Urban life is just not fulfilling for us; we need to breathe some fresh air and to live surrounded by animals and nature. That is why we’ve decided to go on an (life-long?) adventure, beginning with New Zealand. And what better way to discover the world than by sharing stories with those who make it?

Countries I’ve Visited

Argentina, Cambodia, Denmark, Germany, Laos, Morocco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Portugal, Spain, Thailand, Viet Nam

Countries I’ve Lived In
