About Me

CURRENT MISSION:
Explore more. And when in Italia, da mangiare pizza e practicare il mio italiano!

ABOUT ME:
Curious. Funny. Travel is my passion. I enjoy ethnic foods (always seeking a good falafel). Once a year I am a guide in Europe. I organize the French and Italian conversation groups in my town. I founded the S. B. French Festival. My websites: www.Parliamo.yolasite.com, www.SBFrenchGroup.yolasite.com

PHILOSOPHY:
Follow your bliss.
Quit your job. Buy a ticket. Get a tan. Fall in love. Never go back.
Pay attention. Be astonished. Tell about it.
Simplify, simplify, simplify.
To have more, want less.
Do what you love and the money will follow.
All who wander are not lost.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE I host, I surf, I meet-up, I organize events.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE I was, in fact, couchsurfing back in my hitchhiking days in Europe, pre-internet. When someone offered me a bed, I'd say "oui"! I have also CS in California, Utah, France, Greece, Italy, Mexico, Bulgaria and Morocco.

Lots of random CS in the USA. Fall 2024 Paris, Italy. Fall 2022 Paris, Naples , Greek islands. Fall 2019 Barcelona, Greek islands, Italy . Fall 2018 Paris, Italy, Greece, Bulgaria. Fall 2017 Paris, Greece, Malta, Naples. Fall 2016 France, Italy. Fall 2015 France, Italy, Morocco. Fall 2014 France, Turkey. Fall 2013 France, Italy, Greece. Fall 2012 France, Italy.

Interests

Mi piace viaggere, parlare lingue, cucinare, fare conocense. I like travel. Languages. Food. Meeting people. Stories. Adventures! They go together, n'est-ce pas? Oh yeah, hot springs, too. I'm at my happiest when I wake up in some new place (maybe some albergo in a little hilltown in Italy, for example) and go exploring. And then have dinner in a local hole-in-the-wall. I've been doing lots of weekend trips in California lately. Love finding old-fashioned diners with stools along a counter and a waitress that calls you "Honey" as she refills your joe. I also enjoy cooking (I am vegetarian), camping, reading, gardening, and playing piano and guitar.

Music, Movies, and Books

Vonnegut. Steinbeck. Bradbury. Saroyan. I love "The Man Who Planted Trees" by Jean Giono. Stephen King is no slouch.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Here are five:
Hiked to an (almost) abandoned roadless village high in the hills of Provence. Two people lived there and made goat cheese, which I had for lunch.

Ate warm bread fresh from Moroccan wood-burning ovens.

I was in a small chapel in the south of France. In walks Bono (!) and we sang Amazing Grace together.

Sailed in a boat from Hawaii to Tahiti. Stopped at the Equator for a swim. Made landfall in Papeete. Stayed for months. This trip changed my life.

Soaked in hot springs on four continents.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you English, basic guitar or piano, vegetarian cooking, budget travel.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can cook a vegetarian meal for you. I have made many a CS pizza! Posso cucinare per te (vegetariano).

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, England, France, French Polynesia, Germany, Greece, Italy, Malta, Mexico, Monaco, Morocco, Netherlands, Spain, Turkey, United Kingdom, Vatican City State
