ABOUT ME

I like exploring places and ideas and experiences; seeing things from different perspectives. I really enjoy meeting interesting, open minded people from all backgrounds who want to share their thoughts and experiences.

I'm a geotechnical engineer by profession, I've been working in WA's bustling mining sector, and am currently enjoying a couple of weeks off in Japan.

PHILOSOPHY

Broadening horizons - experiencing a bit more of what life has to offer (trying not to be too serious and forgetting to enjoy the ride). Tolerance and interest in others' views and ways. A believer in the value of calm and rational thought, though I certainly enjoy some harmless irrational fun.

Sharing a yarn, an experience, a meal or drink. Gratefully accepting a couch or happily offering one.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've now both surfed and hosted on several occasions. At the least these have been positive worthwhile experiences, and at their best they have been fun, interesting, unique opportunities to meet people and do things that I wouldn't have otherwise been able to.
CS is one amazing truly global community.

Interesses

Sport - getting back in to sailing at the moment, scuba diving, hitting the beach for a swim or a jog on the sand. Did my first Tough Mudders last year.

Listening to music, going to live acts and festivals where possible.

I've been to the Burning Man fest three times now, and each time it has been such a wondrous wacky wild adventure.

I love a good conversation combined with a quality beverage, whether it be tea, coffee, beer, wine, a fine spirit, or a glass of refreshing water.

Músicas, Filmes e Livros

I like a wide range of music; particularly enjoy a good live act. Some favourite bands are Faith No More, Cog, Radiohead, Tool, Chilli Peppers, Isis, Billy Joel, Sigor Ros, (don't mind a bit of classical such as Chopin). Really enjoying music by Fink, Gojira and Queens of the Stone Age at the moment.

Enjoy most movies that have a halfway decent plot and some substance. A well done action flick is always appreciated (fight club, heat). Al Pacino is probably my favourite actor.

I've really enjoyed a few books by Chuck Palahniuk, particularly Rant which has so many rad ideas in it and is delivered in a challenging but ultimately very effective way. Currently reading Kerouac's On The Road.

The things that amaze me in this world are often natural imagery and landscapes, although music can have a powerful effect too.
.... unexpectedly getting the opportunity to see a Mongolian man throat sing and play a stringed instrument while wearing traditional garb, seated at the edge of the tarmac at the airport of a remote city, with rugged mountains and a severe blue sky as a backdrop.... that was pretty amazing.

Idly gazing at a string of helium balloons trailing across the arid Nevada landscape in the twilight of one morning at the Burning Man festival few years ago... sitting there in an old dusty dry bed lake, surrounded by a city of 50,000 fellow burners, pondering how surreal it all was...

I love sharing life experiences, whether they be travel, work, love, tales of wonder, technical genius, hilarity, awesome success, mundane routine stuff, or disaster and crushing failures. These are all parts of life.
I can teach a bit about rock mechanics if anyone is interested.
Am keen to learn about the finer points of spirit distillation.
