Fathi Hawas (b. 1994, Kafr Al Dwwar, Egypt) is an independent visual artist interested in photography, He studied graphic design at Faculty of Arts and Design of Pharos University and contemporary art at MASS Alexandria, presently he lives in Alexandria where his practice started with discovering the limitation of the medium of photography by experimenting different photographing tools and working on different cases that happening far away from the centralization of the capital, recently he working on his self experiments as if he uses his self as a filter to see, observe and interact with the situation, so he seeks for studying, observing and documenting the changes of the society emotions and feelings through producing photographs that represents the current turbulent days we live, Hawas is taking Jacob Riis “Danish-American social reformer” as an idol, the way he write history and changed the situation with his shocking melodramatic photographs inspires him to use the tool and the medium to visually rewrite the Egyptian contemporary situations, he is also believe that the photographer is not only reflecting the truth, the photographer is created from a transparent material to make the spectator able to see through his mind and heart, through his ideology. Hawas participated in several group exhibitions internationally, e.g. in Cairo, Dubai, Denmark and London
