About Me

Hi everyone!

We’re Ismail and Fatma, a couple who met at university and have been together ever since. After many years in Turkey, we made the big move to Oban, Scotland last year, and we’re both nurses by profession. We’re on an exciting journey of discovery in our new home, exploring Scottish culture and landscapes while adjusting to life in the UK.

We believe that travel is about much more than just seeing new places. it’s about meeting people and sharing stories. Couchsurfing is our way of connecting with locals and learning about life from different perspectives. We’re curious, open-minded, and eager to make friends from all over the world.

Fatma has a passion for cooking and loves experimenting with different cuisines, while Ismail is always ready for a deep conversation, often asking thought-provoking (and sometimes funny!) questions that get everyone involved. We both enjoy reading, cycling, hiking, and diving into new adventures. Hitchhiking along the Turkish coast is one of the most exciting experiences we’ve shared!

For us, Couchsurfing is not just a platform for finding accommodation. it’s a way to build meaningful connections. Whether it’s exchanging travel tips, sharing meals, or simply talking about life, we love the idea of growing our understanding of the world through the people we meet.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

CS is much more than just a way to find a place to stay. It’s an incredible opportunity to meet people, share experiences, and build friendships across the world. We believe that the heart of travel lies in the people you meet, the conversations you have, and the cultural exchanges that enrich your journey.

As we adjust to life in Scotland and explore other parts of the UK, we’re excited to connect with locals who can share their insights into the culture, history, and hidden gems of each place. In return, we’d love to share our experiences from Turkey and offer a taste of our culture, whether through cooking traditional meals, telling stories, or simply exchanging ideas.

CS, for us, is a way to make meaningful connections, learn from different perspectives, and give back to the communities we visit. We believe that every person has a unique story, and we’re excited to be a part of this global community, exchanging not just spaces but moments, memories, and friendships.

Music, Movies, and Books

We enjoy a wide range of films, from classic dramas to independent foreign films. Fatma loves cooking-themed movies (anything that showcases food and culture), while Ismail gravitates toward thought-provoking documentaries or comedies that reflect real-life humour. We both enjoy movies that make us think and leave us with something to talk about afterwards.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One of the most amazing experiences we've had is hitchhiking across different regions, especially along Turkey’s stunning coastline. We’ve done it several times, and each journey has been unique. From riding with locals who shared stories and meals with us, to exploring hidden places we never would have found on our own, these experiences taught us a lot about trust, kindness, and the beauty of spontaneous travel.

Every time we hitchhiked, it wasn’t just about reaching a destination—it was about embracing the unknown and connecting with people along the way.

What I Can Share with Hosts

We love the idea of sharing not just space but experiences with our hosts. One of our favourite ways to connect is through cooking—Fatma loves to cook and can prepare delicious Turkish dishes. We’d love to cook together and introduce you to the flavours of Turkey.
