About Me
Hi, my name is Fayna and I’m a fellow life traveller loving art, poetry, music and bad jokes. Currently metamorphosing into a mermaid in Muizenberg, Cape Town, South Africa.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I'm new to the CS community, but I see it as a great and easy oppurtunity to meet new people, break down language barriers, get to know and experience different cultures, get local knowledge, have good conversations, build more tolerance and sensibility, establish international friendships and MOST important: free accomoddation. Just kidding. Most important: interact in the real world (even as an armchair traveller).

Music, Movies, and Books
Having a memorable music festival experience always sparks a light inside of me and is one of my favorite things to invest not only my money but my time. I like to listen to almost all kinds of (live) music. Exeption: German Schlager music. It's the aural equivalent of nuclear war, possibly the reason the Berlin Wall was build and probably the most embarrassing thing Germany has ever produced, sorry for that.
My favorite book of all time is The Alchimist by Paulo Coelho. It's about traveling, recognizing your own personal path, listening to your heart, achieving your dreams and not being afraid of failing. It's a treasure, I'm telling you. But be warned: Do not read this book if you are effected of an acute reading allergy, if you are in danger of thinking too rationally or if you're simply a pessimist, in this case you will hate it. Symptoms include: anger, dreams about book burning, frustration, the urge to throw the book in the bin and/or out of the window. If symptoms do not decrease, please see your librarian or therapist for brain removal surgery.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
- Making the decision of flying to both Thailand and South Africa as a female solo traveller was one of the best things I've ever done. It opened up a totally new world to me and teached me a lot. I made new friends and was actually (unlike the common misconception about solo travelling) never alone.
- Spontaneously deciding to go to a music festival just by myself without having neither a ride to get there, nor a tent to sleep in. Spending the festival with total strangers and having an awesome time.
- Being a pilgrim and following the path of St James (Camino de Santiago) in Spain and Portugal - twice. I had a very intense and mindful time there meeting new people from all over the world, soaking in the beautiful sea- and landscapes and simply being in hiking paradise.
- Completing a Vipassana course, where I meditated in total silence 10 hours a day for 10 days straight, starting at 4 am in the morning.
- Startig to volunteer at a non-profit artschool for disadvantaged children in the township Vrygrond, where our love bugs get the space to process traumas (such as those caused by poverty, violence, abuse etc.) through art therapy.
