About Me
> "How can people be bored? Who even INVENTED boredom?" —The Doctor
> "In 900 years of time and space, I have never met someone who was not important." —also The Doctor
I'm no madman in a blue box, but those are quotes that deeply reflect my world view, you know? They say more about me than I could ever convey in as many words.
But I guess I should try to describe me myself, right? So here goes.
MY MISSION
1. To meet people — and if at all possible, to affect some kind of positive change in their lives.
2. To see places — and if I'm lucky, to come back from them having learned one thing or two.
3. To know and take care of myself — so I can be better at doing one and two.
RANDOM FACTS
I love to talk.
I can't cook.
I play a bit of the ukulele (I always carry one with me, perfect travel instrument).
I care about typography.
I'm less extroverted than I'd like to be.
I have learned a lot from Buddhism.
I am optimistic to a fault (not exaggerating).
I love to share things and places and ideas and songs and apps and everything that I think is great.
I'm 90% Twitter and 10% Facebook (also have been dabbling in Snapchat lately, it's fun!).
I am also willing to try pretty much anything once. (Lots of people say this, but you can call me out on this, I swear.)
Oh, there's work as well, right? Almost forgot. I'm a newbie web developer, having just recently pivoted from a decade working with content (writing, managing, translating).
PHILOSOPHY
I'll enjoy the sun if it's sunny, and I'll enjoy the rain if it's raining.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Please see the first section. ;)
As for hosting... I am a nomad, so right now I really can't take hosts, sadly. Once I settle, my plan is to get a place with a spare bedroom, or at least a sofa-bed, because I love inviting people over!
Interests
Music. To listen and to play. I also try to sing a little, but I lack the technique.
People-centric technology. I make this distinction because when people say they like "technology" they often get tangled up in the metal, talking about CPUs, MHZ, RAM, SSDs and shit. No. I enjoy technology that directly affects people lives for the better. Usability and usefulness, not tech specs.
Videogames were a passion ever since I was a kid, to a point where I became a videogame journalist, paid to write about games and the culture surrounding them. I still enjoy them very much and think they're the most interesting cultural media of our times, but I haven't played very much recently. "Gamers", as a group of people, have turned me off from the medium a whole lot.

Music, Movies, and Books
Anything by Richard Linklater is really up my alley, especially "Waking Life". I also really like silly stuff, such as Edgar Wright comedies, or "Burn After Reading", "The Big Lebowski", things like that. But I'm not a huge movie buff, my knowledge is limited.
Books, well, I read a fair share, mostly nonfiction. I love to learn. "You Are Not So Smart" comes to mind as one my favorites. As for fiction, there's really nothing quite like "The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy" series. "The Solitaire Mystery", by Jostein Gaarder, also deserves a mention. But I'm missing a lot of stuff here.
As for music, I have too many favorites. Too many! Here's a few: Weezer, Muse, Foo Fighters, Cake, Ben Folds, OK Go, Jonathan Coulton, Arctic Monkeys, The Offspring, Smashing Pumpkins, Shakey Graves, Father John Misty, Jasper Sloan Yip, Ásgeir, Death Cab For Cutie, Wilco, Warpaint...
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
When I was 18, I met this girl. Well, a woman. She was 26. We met on the internet, because we were both fans of this band no one else knew about. But she lived 3000km away from me. A few months later, I went to live with her — and her family.
To live. With her.
I didn't know a thing about the place where she loved, and I had never travelled before.
In a way, I guess this was my first couchsurfing experience, as I literally slept on the couch for the first several weeks. We stayed together for six years, then went our separate ways as friends. But my life was deeply and forever changed because of this experience. I never went back home.
I have also backpacked alone for three months through Europe, if that counts around these parts as an "amazing thing" to have done. ;)
