About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Re-exploring Berlin and Europe. You can follow me on twitter: @burfel

ABOUT ME

I’m a very social, outgoing person. I am passionate about travelling (off the beaten track), discovering the world and its people. I love sharing thoughts and experiences whatsoever, talking about random stuff, laughing together and just having fun. Apart from that, I enjoy reading and having a good cuppa.

PHILOSOPHY

Could be Carpe diem, you only live once.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Occasional CS meetings, hosting & surfing — depending on time and mood.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I extensively used couchsurfing during my Scandinavia trip after finishing High School where I met loads of inspiring and warm-hearted people! I recommend everyone to go out there and have a try themselves!

Interests

I’ve always been a generalist and a curious person. I did my undergrad in (Pure) Maths and Philosophy (if you’re interested in that, I am happy to go into it :) but I don’t have to, I’m equally interested in things I have no or only little knowledge about) but I am now transitioning to applied maths in life sciences (Theoretical Systems Biology to be more specific)…to do “something useful” and be employable after my degree ;) Also, I am interested in biology and have worked there before (in a theoretical biophysics group). I do miss the beauty of pure maths but coding can be good fun too and I am passionate about tech (especially getting more women in tech ;)). I’m most probably will be going back to Berlin at the end of this year to work for a startup, start my own if I find the right co-founder(s) or a PhD in case I miss uni too much. I'm still open.
I’m an outdoor person and like going hiking and snowboarding ...and dancing (I used to do ballet).

Music, Movies, and Books

Films: Before Netflix I used to have quite a video store at home from my time in Bolivia ;) . The ones I can think of right now are Brokeback Mountain, The Life of Others, One flew over the Cuckoo's Nest, Je vais bien ne t'en fais pas (Melanie Laurent is a great actress!), I am Sam, Forrest Gump, The Pianist, The Baader Meinhof Complex, Remember Me and the Rocky Horror Picture Show! Nowadays, I don’t watch films all too often.

Music: Various. From Bon Iver, Mexican Elvis, Coldplay, The Kooks, Mando Diao, Manu Chao, Jamaram, Clueso, MGTM and alternative rock, from Bob Marley to The Beatles to Chopin ;) .

Books: Kafka's/ Kafkaesque novels, The Catcher in the Rye, The Perfume, The book thief, L'élégance du hérisson, Un brillant avenir, 1984, Eating animals, How to be, Wer bin ich und wenn ja wie viele? and various ones of the great story-teller Juan José Millás..

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Heaps of stuff. Some of what occurs to me at this very moment: crossing the mountains from La Paz to Arica and observing the unspoiled countryside as well as the salt flats near Uyuni (with one of the best folks I have met in all my travels). Mesmerising, I've never seen something comparable in all my travels. Second off, watching the geysers in Atacama Desert when the temperature rises from perceived -15 up to 20 degrees from one minute to another. Breathtaking! Also, parque Tayrona in Columbia is stunning.
..oh and skydiving over the Great Barrier Reef and a bungee jump in Queenstown, NZ.

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach: How to make the best Quinoa salad ever! Australian and Bolivian/ Argentinian slang …and Maths and a bit of CS I guess.
Learn: Listening to stories from people who have a passion for what they are doing; there’s hardly anything that does not interest me at all. Languages! I love Europe for its richness of cultures and languages — come and teach me your language! If you know how to cook, I’d be more than happy if you could teach me! :D I love good food and a glass or two of wine.
