About Me

CURRENT MISSION

ABOUT ME

I'm a PhD student in (theoretical) computer science, with a little bit of (also theoretical) physics on the side, which has to mean that I'm particularly bad at describing people, since my expertise is in describing lifeless, and ideally abstract, objects. So instead I'll just list a few random facts about me.

Although I believe in politeness, I don't do a lot of it myself. I often feel more comfortable letting my actions do the talking. I sometimes wonder if people think I'm a jerk for that, though of course polite people would never say anything :)

I can talk someone's ear off if given the right opportunity. I haven't quite figured out what the right opportunity is. (Alcohol helps but is not the answer.) So sometimes people think of me as a quiet person.

I love sports but I also love eating (and cooking), so I don't look very athletic. I do really love these things though :)

My MBTI type, which measures how people perceive the world and make decisions but to me it's more of an astrological sign for nerds, is ISFP according to an online test. An Internet authority says that this corresponds to the way of thinking of artists. I think MBTI is b.s. but I often wonder if I made the right choice in going to science.

There's always time for what you care about

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Now that I'm finally able to host some people I'll hopefully participate more. I always go to the weekly meetings in Zurich and always try to go to events in cities I visit.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

People on Couchsurfing are easily the most open-minded, diverse group I've ever had the opportunity to interact with. Given that I'm not the most sociable person, I'm always impressed at how easy couch surfers are to approach. I guess maybe because they come from everywhere -- there are always cultural bits that I can either relate with or be in awe of.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: punk rock, hip hop, tango, salsa, forró
Cinema: not going to list anyone here, let's just say that lately I've been into a lot of old stuff (meaning 30s/40s). I also like a bunch of the artsy european stuff. Also, China.
Books: mostly history-related books lately. I still like Cormac McCarthy as much as I did last time I looked at my profile.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you all about my research. I doubt you'll be interested though :P

I like teaching some of whatever I'm learning at the moment, which, as I write this, means drawing. It's one of the best ways to learn something, they say. So you might get some of that.

I also like learning languages and to talk about learning languages, so I might also ask more questions than you usually get about your own native language. On that note, feel free to address me in any of the languages I claim to speak :P
