About Me

An Environmental Engineer with an urge to get stuck in a few countries where I can do some cool shit with shit, like now in Zambia.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

There's much more to discover in a country than landscapes, tourist attractions and whatever you can find in guidebooks. This is the perfect place.

Music, Movies, and Books

A few recommendations never hurt: (except your finger that needs to scroll through it all...)

Books:
Recent favorites are Philosophy of Physics, We are Legion (We are Bob) by Dennis Taylor and Physics of the Impossible by Michio Kaku, other authors of books I liked were Max Tegmark, Steven Strogatz, Bill Nye, Douglas Adams, Jules Verne, and Sean Caroll

Music:
impossible to list bevause it would change every week. But that's good so I can link some pieces of music to certain events to remember. For every piece I can play for you there's a story connected!

Films:
I don't really watch movies but recently fell for Russian comedies. Watch this masterpiece from 2007: день выборов (Election day)

Podcasts:
Fall of Civilizations

Games:
The walking Dead, Anno 1404, The last of us, Assassins Creed, Tomb Raider, What Remains of Edith Finch, Life Is Strange (but only the first part), and obviously Minecraft lol

Youtube:
Travel and Culture: Peter Santenello, Shiey, Itchy boots

Science and Education: CGP Grey, Wendover Productions, Everything of Brady Haran, Poly Matter, Kento Bento, Dr Becky, Real Engineering, RealScience, Steve Mould, Vsauce (3), Minute Earth / Physics, Veritasium, zefrank, Jay Foreman, PolyMatter, Kurzgesagt, Atlas Pro, Up and Atom, Tom Scott, MentourPilot, B1M, BrightSunFilms, EconomicsExplained, CaspianReport

Entertainment: Jetlag The Game, GeoWizard

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

-Helping to monitor and gather data on animals in a Game Reserve in South Africa
-Teaching natural sciences in Kenya and Tanzania
-For once waking up at 4 AM to go for a run and swim seeing the sun rise before becoming a science teacher for the day
-Being a crazy alchemist in my dark makeshift Ghanian lab for a week bubbling some gas trough wastewater all through the night to calibrate a wastewater system I'm designing
-Chatting to and drinking with some African chiefs after getting a motorbike to nowhere and then proceeding to hike up the highest mountain in West Africa in intense rain only to find out there was something higher just next door
-Cycletouring the rural Balkan mountains, cruising down roads and small paths at top speeds after painfully going up all day to the best views and music
-Getting a ride after 1 minute on a Georgian mountain road after waiting 4 hours the day before and setting up camp in a dystopian Soviet spa town
-Spending the night at a remote farmhouse I stumbled accross while hiking half the length of Armenia and actually being able to hear their stories in Russian
-Setting up camp in a small city park to see what happens, ending up shittalking with half of the local youth
-Cruising through Pakistani villages, visiting some factories and universities, and chatting with wastewater officials just by showing up and asking
-Cruising down the roads with a police escort into an Indian prison only to walk on a red carpet with a state minister and recieve a flower bath
-Attending lectures and conferences in India, learning and getting awards for my thesis and the design of a wastewater system I'm developing on the side
-Climbing fences and abandoned buildings, crashing festival gatherings, tirelessly hitchhiking a few 1000km, learning about life and foremost being alive in India
-Sleeping in an abandoned Soviet research facility and creating my own paths while traversing the mountain ranges of central Asia

Teach, Learn, Share

It's pointless to have a nice clean desk, because it means you're not doing anything - Michio Kaku

(~Me when I at least want to get a little feeling of being productive when I'm actually not)

I'll happily teach you all about the great stuff that you can do with wastewater and how to see the world from an engineering perspective. But I like to keep my interests diverse, so if you want to discuss quantum mechanics and debate the fundamental questions of the universe, stones, table tennis, or whatever, let's invest a few hours!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I guess it ultimately boils down to good company, a laugh and a few new experiences shared together
