About Me

Hey I am Felix and I am 184 (dog) years old haha. I love cheesy jokes and just having a good time. I am born and raised in Southern California and have been super fortunate to get a severe case of the "travel bug" at an early age. After college I had an "Office Space" (movie reference) type of job and after a year of working there I had this gut feeling to take some time off work and go travel. So after I saved a bit and literally sold everything I owned I went to travel the world. I was not looking for a vacation rather an experience where I put myself in uncomfortable and unfamiliar situations. This was an extremely growing and humbling experience. From January 2015 to August 2015 I traveled to Madagascar (journey by myself), South Africa (road trip with my brother), Nepal (independent volunteer after earthquake), and Europe (following my heart...summer of deep love). I discovered equally about myself as I did amazing countries and beautiful people from around the world. After my travels I helped my grandma recovery from hip surgery and prepared to be an English teacher in Korea. I taught English in Seoul and then moved to Ecuador to volunteer after the earthquake. Now I am back in California with family and working to make something more than a pay check. I will keep you all updated :)

This journey helped me remember my childhood dreams of adventure. This journey reshaped my value system...I realized the value of life experiences and time to have those experiences. No longer would I work for the highest salary rather the highest satisfaction and enjoyment of my self.

I am a pretty active person and love progressive sports like surfing, snowboarding, and skydiving. However I love to balance these things with Yoga, acroYoga, meditation, slacklining, scuba diving, reading, writing, and drawing. I don't watch much tv or movies anymore but I have seen a ton in the past so I will get pretty much 90% of the references out there..."Donnie you are out of your element!" (the Big Lebowski reference). I don't drink or anything but love going to clubs and festivals...basically if I can dance I am there :) Disclaimer: If you have good dance moves I will most likely borrow them haha

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

When my brother first introduced me to CS I told him there is no way we are hosting strangers in our house. He assured it would be an amazing experience and IT HAS BEEN INCREDIBLE! :) I have hosted over 25 people, surfed with more than 10 people, and met up with tons of people from all around the world. I am on couchsurfing to meet people, make connections, and share experiences. But sometimes people need a place crash and some time to explore by themselves so I am also on couchsurfing to help travelers keep there expenses down while discovering new places.

Interests

I have so many interests :) I am interested in activities that engage my mind, my body, and my soul. So my main interest is keeping a balance of these things. It is important that I keep myself grounded and connected to environment and my environment.

For 2016 my main interests are slacklining, breathing (Wim Hof method), and handstands :) But I do want to learn how to rock climb and paraglide if it is in the cards...

Music, Movies, and Books

There is so much music to love out there and so much music I haven't even heard yet. But from what I have heard I would have to highlight these as some of my favorites: Progressive House, Tropical House, Indie Rock, Rock, 1990's Rap, and I can not get get enough of funk, oldies, and R&B.

Yes, I am one of these people who will ask you what your favorite movie is and will not be tell you my favorite in return. I apologize in advance haha. The best answerI can give you is that there is a tie for my #1 spot between The Shawshank Redemption and the Big Lebowski.

I am a bit of a late bloomer when it comes to reading books but I am catching up. So far I tend to enjoy reading books about the universe, the environment, biohacking books, and Non-fiction of people doing extraordinary things (The Rise of Superman, and Born To Run are both in my top picks). I am open to any and all suggestions for new books.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In April 2015 an earthquake hit the people of Nepal and shook the world. I was traveling in South Africa when the disaster happened and once I heard I the news I on the first plane over there. I did not even have a plane ticket I just simply packed up my things showed up to the airport and got on the first available flight. I arrived with no disaster relief experience or really even a clue where to start but I got in touch with some amazing people and was joined by my brother and friend a few days after I arrived. The three of us were in were in Nepal for 4 weeks. During that time we raised over $20,000 USD and built over 100 semi-permanent shelters, a school, and provided food and water to the people that needed it most. It was not an easy experience but I would not trade that experience for anything in the world. I can not explain why I went it was just another gut feeling I had.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am not sure exactly if I can teach someone something but I am sure we can learn/discover something together. So what I mean is that I do not believe in traditional teacher/student roles because that would infer that only one person in this scenario is capable of learning when if fact both people, teacher/student or parent/child, learn about themselves and the world around them.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share hugs, smiles, and laughs with hosts and everybody I meet. Life is too short for handshakes, head nods, and tears. It is up to us to always make the best of our situation and enjoy every moment we can :)

I the past I have shared my passion of surfing, acro yoga, and slacklining with anyone who was interested, even strangers. After all strangers are just friends you haven't met yet :)
