About Me

Just an easygoing Canadian fellow who's looking for some laughs, some fun and major life altering revelations :0

I'm a fun-loving, goofy nerd, who at the same time thrives off of intellectual and cultural discussion. Always happy to share a beer and talk about anything.

I was born and spent most of my life in Ottawa, Canada and lived a pretty typical life, even attending university in the same city at Carleton University. I've been to many parts of the world with my family, my parents really encourage travelling. Now that I've got my set of academic accomplishments under my belt, I'm ready to really get out there and explore the world.

I recently lived in Nanjing, China as an English teacher and explore dmore parts of China towards the end of my contract.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

After hearing from my foreigner friends about CouchSurfing for the past few months I finally decided to sign up. It seems to be a great community with a lot of friendly people from all walks of life. I would be lying if I didn't think it was also an awesome bonus that many people on the site offer a free place to stay.

Truth be told though, this is my first time living away from home (I know, I picked a pretty crazy first place to move to, right?) and just in Nanjing I've been blown away by how many wonderful and interesting people I've met. I'm on Couchsurfing because it makes it so much easier to meet even more wonderful and interesting people from around the world.

Meeting locals and foreigners has made me realize even more than before what a big place the world is and how important it is to meet new people to exchange culture, ideas and sentiments that I previously would not have been exposed to back in my little old city of Ottawa, Canada. Couchsurfing just makes the whole process so easy.

Interests

I'm a total pop-culture fanatic - movies, music, TV shows, comic books. I love travelling (shocker, right?). My communications degree also helped me get a pretty solid foundation for understanding the role of new media in our world today which I find fascinating.

Music, Movies, and Books

My friends always say I am a guy who likes literally everything, but I'll try my best to pick my absolute favourites.

My favourite movies are Fight Club, Toy Story 3, Anchorman, Die Hard and The Social Network. Pretty much film by David Fincher just gets me going.

I don't even know where to start for music. I really like pretty much everything (except country). Several years ago I made a list of the top 3 acts I had to see, which was the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Weezer and Eminem. I crossed them all out a few years ago which is great. The music I've been listing to since arriving in China has consisted of Mother Mother, The Killers, Watsky, Arkells, Radiohead, Jay-Z and the Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack.

I don't read a ton of books, but I try to get through a half a dozen or so a year. Right now I'm reading Console Wars which has been a fun read and I read Gone Girl over the summer which is definitely one of the best books I have read in recent memory.

Also, Breaking Bad is the greatest piece of media ever created.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Not as epic as what I've seen from other folks on here, but I went to San Diego Comic Con for the first time this summer.
If you're even mildly interested in pop culture then you know that San Diego Comic Con is basically the Shangri-La of the nerd world. I met some celebrities, comic book artists and other people just like me who shared my passion for pop culture.
I also fell in love with the city of San Diego while I was there, it really is an incredible city and it completely blew me away. I can't wait to go back there someday.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm a friendly person who tries their best to never, ever step on anyones toes or overstay my welcome. I've never really couch surfed before so I'm not sure what I'm supposed to 'offer' per sé, but the last thing I ever want to do is get in anyones way. If you'd like to host me at your place I would be truly grateful, if not, let me know if you wanna get a beer when I'm in town!
