About Me

Ciao! Aloha! Konnichiwa!

I was born in Barcelona, Spain, the day that Spring leaves and Summer enters in the Northern hemisphere: a 21st of june, of the year 1995. As every kid that has the opportunity to grow in "the Western World", my life was already planned before I was born: school, bigger school, university, a bad job, a loan, a good job, a tax account, an stable job, a house, a wife, someone to perpetuate my family's name, a graveyard, and some more taxes.

I turned 18 in a Western Country that didn't look at all like the one I was born in, nor I was anymore the perfect citizen prototype my society wanted. I also knew that going straight to university without being mature enough was pointless, so I decided to postpone it to travel around Europe. I, of course, was broke at the time (more or less like nowadays), so instead of buying a rail-pass and staying in hostels, I bought a bike, a tent and packed some clothes and I ended cycling 8000km across 14 different countries in 5 months, from the south of France to northern Norway and from there to Czech Republic, crossing Eastern Europe.

I met wonderful people along the road, which took care of me, advised me and pushed me to what my life is now: a 5 years round the world trip, full of wonderful experiences, but also built around a life and work project to become a photographer and a journalist.

So that's in short. If you want to know a bit more about me you can take a look at my complete profile at worldaholic.com/about or you can contact me through social media on facebook.com/ferranlagarde

Have a nice day!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am only making my firsts steps here, however I have used WarmShowers (couchsurfing for Bike Tourists) a lot. And it always has been a good experience!

Anyway, the idea is more or less the same: to meet someone, to learn something new and to share an amazing moment. It doesn't matter if it's a long or short experience, because I am sure that we will have enough time to fill it with that purpose.

Interests

Well, some of them: bike touring, Running (I even did my marathon this past year!), Journalism, Photography, Sci-fi, English humor style... And blogging, of course!

Music, Movies, and Books

I am in love with the post-Lost/Breaking Bad/The Wire era. Even if I am currently living in a tent, and travelling in countries with awful internet speed, I always find time to watch the last episode of House of Cards or jump into the crazy stuff from Hollywood. When I need to learn something I always choose a good French or British documentary.

I like Indie/Alternative music, but I am also kind of Heavy Metal, Pop, Country or Electronic and those amazing oldies that you hear in the radio once in a while. Seriously, I like everything: Snow Patrol, Mika, Michael Bublé, James Blunt, M83, Johnny Cash, Aerosmith, Metallica...

And if nowadays reading is not the most efficient way to learn or discover something, sometimes I enjoy a book that is worth reading, from socioechonomic essays to Manga, Science Fiction or Noir.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

From a physical point, my first Marathon: 42,195km of glorious pain under the hottest sun I can recall. Ah, you can train as much as you want, but it's going to be like this always.

From a psychological point, leaving my given home to create a new one. I don't know where nor when I will find everything I need to accomplish this, but I have all the world to think about it.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you some Catalan and Spanish words, and I can also try to cook some meals related to both countries. I am not an expert in any of those, though.

Keep in mind that if you ask me to make an Spanish "Tortilla de patatas" (Spanish omelette) you will probably end with the new title for a Hollywood horror movie: Scrambled "Tortilla de patatas": not that easy to make and not that easy to flip in the air.

Countries I’ve Visited

Albania, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Monaco, Montenegro, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, United Kingdom, United States, Vatican City State

Countries I’ve Lived In
