Overview
About Me
My name is Fiachradh (yes, it's a very traditional Irish name!) and I'm travelling around the United States for the Summer. I mainly travel by hitchhiking, and I've covered New York to New Orleans, Vermont to Oregon, and Oregon all the way through California. I'm the adventurous type with a taste for wanderlust. I'm more than happy to share stories of my hitchhiking travels with everyone! :)
I like all sorts of music, and I play guitar. I like socialising in new cities, getting to know the cultures and the best local spots. While cities can be great, it's the people that I love to meet.
I have used Couchsurfing in Europe and I'm hoping to expand my friends list with more like-minded individuals.
I'll see you on down the road!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I find it's great meeting locals in cities as they know the best spots. I'm a bit of a social fiend so I love making new friends on my travels, many of which I still keep in touch with! As well as this, I love hosting friends I've made back home in Ireland when they pass through. It's always a joy showing people around my neck of the woods.
I firmly believe Couchsurfing is one of the best ways to travel. Obviously it's cost-effective, but aside from that it's truly wonderful meeting like-minded individuals who have traveled too!
Interests
I like to read a lot of books, mostly travel books that keep me inspired when I'm travelling. Jack Kerouac is my favourite, but I thoroughly enjoy Jack London, Into the Wild and various other travel tales. Aside from this, I like Stephen King, Lord of the Rings and other adventure-style stories.
As a journalist, I'm interested in writing, be it news articles, features, creative writing, poetry... Anything really! It is definitely an avenue I wish to pursue in life and make a career out of it.
And, of course, I love travelling. I find alternative travel methods fascinating such as hitchhiking, freight hopping, rubber tramping, long distance walking and others. It's great meeting other travellers and trading stories!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
A lot of people are amazed at my travels. Travel was amazing for me personally in the sense that it opened me up to so many different ways of life, and that maybe we don't always have to follow the path we're given. It also opened me up as a person and made me evaluate what I wished to pursue in life (I chose journalism as I want to write about my travels). Above all, the most amazing thing about my travels is the people I've met along the way. Travel wouldn't be the same without the friends I've made.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I can share countless stories about my travels across Europe and my two stints across the United States. If you're thinking of heading to Ireland, I'll recommend the best out-of-the-way places to go!
I love to cook, so I'm more than happy cooking a meal for my hosts; I feel it's the least I can do.
I'm easy going and like socialising, so we can always share a drink in your favourite spot!
And you'll get to hear my accent! Haha.
