About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Searching for the secrets.

ABOUT ME

"I have loved the stars too fondly to be fearful of the night."
-ۥ Sarah Williams

I am a knowledge junkie. Teach me something new! Always desperate to dig deeper. I can come off as reserved, but I'm not shy. Extremely self-reliant. I'm an avid backpacker who adores being out in nature. Tolerates all kinds of weather. Loves pubs, dancing, and walking randomly through city streets. Hates alarm clocks. I'm a novelist, playwright, and comics writer. Passionate about ideas, spontaneity, and unlocking inner freedom. Can cook a meal, shoot a gun, sling a sword, dress a wound, fix a computer, and fiddle around on guitars.

"Build a man a fire and he'll stay warm for a day; set a man on fire and he'll stay warm for the rest of his life."
-ۥ Terry Pratchett

Driven by the search for connections between those things which on the surface seem irreconcilable.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

In the fall of 2012 I went on a long journey through Europe. Met amazing people and got my mind blown. Now I'm on the road again. I'm no brilliant chef, but I can cook and I can clean. Doing dishes is a zen practice for me. I've worked as a Network and Security Computer Engineer. Does this mean I can fix your technology problems if I crash on your couch? Maybe so.... some tech things I'm good at, others not so much, but I can always try.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Couchsurfing has been a life changing experience :) I've met awesome people from everywhere! Local hosts keep (and share) the secrets of the cities.

Interests

Fiction is my life, but I read non-fiction rabidly. Particularly history and science. I have a deep interest in world mythologies and the way people relate to the cosmos. I love to experience nature first hand. And by nature I include the city. Calcutta and New Orleans convinced me that cities can be organic. Long meandering walks through new environments with time to think and/or engaging conversation are the moments I live for.

Music, Movies, and Books

Books: The Idiot, Ulysses, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Infinite Jest, Anything by Marquez, Lord of the Rings, The Great Divorce, Blood Meridian, Heinlein, Borges, Pynchon, Calvino, George Saunders, Mark Twain
Music: Tom Waits, Gogol Bordello, Godspeed You Black Emperor, Flogging Molly, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, The National, Old Crow Medicine Show, They Might Be Giants, Beck, Sigur Ros, Of Monsters and Men, Glitchy electronic stuff, super old timey blues and country, and I even love cheesy dancey pop music if it isn't too horrible.
Movies: Too many to list I'm a cinemaphile, The Adventures of Baron von Munchausen and the Marx Brothers films hold special places in my heart... Cohen Brothers, Alien, The Goonies, The Fountain, Dead Man, Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Travel changes everything.
From the six months I spent living out of my truck, traveling through New Mexico to random theater performances breaking out in New York City to the resilient energy of New Orleans (post Katrina). And that's just in my own country. Outside I've been to India, Thailand, Japan and 13 European countries. Sizzling! Addicting.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am trained in a Japanese sword art and was once certified to teach it. I'm well read in history, science and tech, philosophy and literature. I've spent a lot of time traveling and backpacking and living by my wits. I've learned a lot about love, not all of it awesome. The dark and light sides of life both appeal to me, and I'm obsessed with finding where they connect. I know that what I know is just a drop in the bucket, and I'm addicted to learning.

What I Can Share with Hosts

My ears most of all. My parents cultivated in me a skill for listening from an early age.
