About Me

Member since 2009, oh wow, it's been a while. You can see my younger (and slimmer) face in one of the photos! But I guess I owe this profile an update.

SO - I'm an ex-English teacher and translator, currently working as an IT guy for a French company based in Katowice, Poland. I'm a board game-playing nerd at heart, in love with guitars that are older than me and the stories that they bring. Making silly music with friends is a great way for me to vent, and I definitely travel less than I should.

Also, chinkali is the best kind of dumpling there is - prove me wrong.

PS. Also, I might have a secret that could save your life...or not.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Getting to know new people during travel is amazing. I've met missionaries, geeks and beekeepers on my path, and it was always equally interesting; I would like that list to continue growing as I learn more and more, and hopefully give a little back.

I enjoy board games and visit other countries semi-often to play in tournaments and other such events; it would be great to meet people during that time as well.

Interests

My head revolves around appreciating art in all forms, be it literature, films, painting, sculpture etc. I dabble in playing guitar (and repairing them) and dabble even less in playing keyboard. Also, I am quite keen on the idea of the transhumanistic movement and other futuristic/ambitious sci-fi ideas of enhancing the human condition. Language fascinates me from the a linguistic and philosophical perspective.

Music, Movies, and Books

Mostly science-fiction with philosophical tendencies, some fantasy. Lem and Philip K. Dick when we talk about classic authors; Jacek Dukaj, China Mieville, Charles Stross and Peter Watts when we talk about the new.

I tend to listen to anything from classical music-style movie soundtracks, through electronica (usually either industrial, ambient or synthwave) to blues and metal. Constantly in love with Tool, Black Sabbath, Nine Inch Nails, Fink, Godspeed! You Black Emperor, Bohren and der Club of Gore, Deftones and Soundgarden.

What I Can Share with Hosts

If you're keen on long talks about philosphy, linguistics, social repercussion of various technological and social advances, music and differences between beer types, I'm your man :) Willing to teach guitar (although I'm a self-taught leftie, so beware), help with French and English.

Also, if you want something special from the beautiful country of Poland, just give me a shout!
