About Me
Hi everyone!
I'm Filipe, a Brazilian originally from Rio de Janeiro, but I found a second home in São João del Rei, Minas Gerais, where I did my undergraduate and master studies and lived for ten years. After spending some time in Rio de Janeiro to pursue my PhD, I've now returned to São João del Rei. Here, I live with my partner and our baby, who was born in April 2018.
I currently work as a software engineer, and I'm also passionate about music, specifically Brazilian music from the 1970s. I run a project called "naGira," where I curate and play vinyl records, bringing the vibrant sounds of samba, soul, funk, and jazz to life. If you're interested in Brazilian music and culture, I'd love to share some tunes and stories!
I consider myself a calm, organized, clean, and adaptable person. When couchsurfing, I respect house rules and expect the same from guests when hosting. I enjoy hiking, biking, going to the beach, hitchhiking, talking about my country, and especially sharing a beer.
Hosting Preferences: I usually prefer to host people for a maximum of 3 days. Our routine can be quite busy, especially with a child at home, and we often have family and friends visiting from other states. But if you're looking for a place to stay and want to explore São João del Rei, feel free to reach out!
Looking forward to meeting fellow travelers and sharing experiences!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I'm on Couchsurfing because it offers a way to get into somewhere's culture. Besides of that, keeping my doors open to Couchsurfers gives me the opportunity to be always in contact with different cultures.
Interests
I have a deep passion for music, especially Brazilian music from the 1970s. I run a project called naGira, where I work as a vinyl selector, curating rare and iconic records from that vibrant decade. The 1970s were a remarkable era for Brazilian music, with rich influences from Afro-Brazilian culture and an explosion of creativity that gave rise to diverse genres like samba, soul, funk, and jazz.
Through naGira, I aim to celebrate this golden age of Brazilian music by offering an immersive sonic experience. I carefully select vinyl records that capture the spirit of the era, bringing a unique and nostalgic atmosphere to my performances. It's not just about playing music; it's about creating a journey through time that highlights the diversity and richness of Brazil's musical heritage.
Beyond music, I love spending time outdoors, hiking, biking, and exploring new places. If you're interested in music, culture, or just sharing a good conversation over a beer, I'm always up for it!
