About Me

Hello, friend! I'm Filip, and I'm out and about chasing shenanigans that make me feel alive. On the run from our simple world, where everything seems damn figured out. Where we define ourselves by careers, find comfort in routine, and take pride in certainty. I was never much of a fan. So I quit my job, ended my relationship, and left my home in London to live out of a backpack, turn strangers into friends, and stare at the endlessly changing horizon 🌄 Other than that, I'm just a chill 25-year-old dude

✱ As we speak, I'm hitchhiking solo from the island of Bali in Indonesia to my hometown, Liptovský Mikuláš in Slovakia. A slightly under 30,000 km with a budget of slightly over 12 months. 22 countries, from jungles to barren deserts

Shameless plug: @filiponatrip
If you see me on the road, shout and let’s team up, hell yea!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Things in the world look kinda grim, but I firmly believe in the kindness of strangers. All there is to do to make literally everything in the world better is to be kind to each other and give a helping hand. Practice what you preach, so I always give a ride to the roaming hitchhiker and offer the wandering traveller a place. And sometimes, I rely on that kindness of strangers myself

Happiness is only real when shared, and yea man, it is all about people. There are rice fields in all Asian countries, and they all look the same. It's the people who matter and I'm on Couchsurfing to get to know you, my friend!

Music, Movies, and Books

In Xanadu did Kubla Khan
a stately pleasure-dome decree:
where Alph, the sacred river, ran
through caverns measureless to man
down to a sunless sea

The Lumineers, Caamp, Vance Joy, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, Into the Wild, or anything a granola girl in Oregon would do. Occasionally binge-watching the hype of Stranger Things/Squid Game/anything good on AppleTV

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

When I aced my A-levels and graduated high school, I booked a flight to London for the very next day. I packed a sleeping bag, a pair of pants, two T-shirts, and a disassembled penny board into a backpack and landed in London with no accommodation booked, no plans, no local friends, and about £80 to my name

I tramped around and got by thanks to Couchsurfing, dating apps, and discounted Tesco meals

Was it awesome? Yes, sir!
Would I do it again? Absolutely not

What I Can Share with Hosts

We can just talk about life, I can help you with English, or cook something for ya. I've been known to openly trash/question modern society and try to convince people to finally take the step and do everything they've always wanted to do. You don't have to tell me twice to go for wildly unplanned plans, and I'm always ready to match your freak

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, France, Germany, Hungary, Indonesia, Ireland, Morocco, Norway, Poland, Portugal, South Africa, Spain, Thailand

Countries I’ve Lived In

Slovakia, United Kingdom
