About Me

I'M SORRY, DUE TO THE CURRENT CORONAVIRUS SITUATION I AM NOT ACCEPTING GUESTS. BEFORE YOU EMBARK ON YOUR TRIP, I RECOMMEND YOU CHECK WHETHER YOUR COUNTRY IS CONSIDERED A RED ZONE AND THUS YOU HAVE TO QUARANTINE WHEN YOU ARRIVE IN NORWAY

I'm an Italian 31 y-old PhD student at UiT The Arctic University of Norway, located in Tromsø, above the Arctic Circle. I studied Biology and Ecology in Rome and I moved to Norway in January, 2016 - quite a big change! My research focuses on the impact of climate change on several arctic species - reindeer, arctic fox, lemmings - and how management can be improved to maintain vital populations and sustainable harvest in the face of climate change.

As a PhD, I have the opportunity to travel a lot - that's a big plus! I love travelling and meeting local people, socializing and getting tips on places to visit. I like my travelling being a mix of nature - national parks, birdwatching, hiking, camping - and human dimension - get to know the people and share stories and experiences with them. I like being essential and flexible - I can basically sleep everywhere! Couchsurfing turns out to be amazing to me then.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm on Couchsurfing mostly to meet people over my journeys and establish good relations, to give other people the opportunity to have a roof above their head if they want to visit the Big North where I live now...and to keep the travel expenses low!

Music, Movies, and Books

Favourite bands: Pink Floyd, Sigur Ros, Sting, Radiohead, Pino Daniele
Favourite movies: Into the Wild, School of Rock, Dances with Wolves, 12 Angry Men, Nuovo Cinema Paradiso...and of course Star Wars.
Favourite book authors: George Orwell, Hemingway, Reinhold Messner, Hans Rosling

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In 2009 I walked the Camino de Santiago de Compostela, almost 900 km throughout Northern Spain.

In 2014, for my Master thesis, I've been 7 months in the island of Principe, Gulf of Guinea, to study the African Grey Parrot. Principe is a wonderful small spot in the middle of the ocean, covered with dense tropical forest. A nice anecdote: during one of our field surveys, my tent was destroyed by a marine turtle during the night!

Since I moved to Tromsø in 2016, I have been doing a lot of ski touring on the spectacular mountains in this area. Every trip is a little adventure, skimming fresh trackless powder gives me moments of pure bliss.
