About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Live life to the fullest and try as many new and bold things as possible!

ABOUT ME

I'm a journalism student, and as much as people lament the impending death of newspapers, I'm still very passionate about print journalism! I hope to become an investigative journalist in the future, preferably in the field of financial and business news.

Aside from reporting and writing, I love singing, playing, making, and listening to music -- I particularly love indie and electronic music, although most genres appeal to me.

I'm also up for a drink anytime! I'm a whiskey-and-coke girl, but I pretty much drink whatever... I'm not a crazy party animal but I do let my hair down sometimes and have fun, immersing myself in the music.

For one of my recent travels, I went to the UK and made a video of my trip. It was a personal project and I'm quite proud of it! You can view it on Vimeo here: http://vimeo.com/86302061 I can't wait to make more videos of my future travels!!

I also love the outdoors; mountain-trekking and cycling are some of my favourite activities! There is nothing more beautiful and amazing than Mother Nature, and I hope to see as many magnificent mountains in the world as I can before I die.

I don't read much but I do appreciate a good novel. I'm also a huge movie junkie, especially for fantasy films. My favourites are Pan's Labyrinth, Harry Potter (love the books too), The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Inception, Sweeney Todd, Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist, and The Golden Compass. And of course, I'm addicted to Netflix -- some of the TV shows I love include Master of None, Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, Hannibal, Love, Modern Family, The Office, and Freaks & Geeks.

I'm also crazy about piercings and tattoos. I currently have 8 piercings and 2 tattoos. And of course I'll be getting more ink as soon as possible. :) Friends describe me as quirky, individualistic, and insightful. I'm an introvert, but I absolutely love meeting new people -- all kinds of people! -- and experience new cultures and lifestyles. Everyone has their own stories to tell, their own struggles to overcome, and thus has so much to offer.

PHILOSOPHY

"If only" are the two saddest words in the world and I plan to live my life such that I never have to utter those words.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm here to meet cool people and make new friends from around the world. I like to learn about other cultures and broaden my horizon by exposing myself to new perspectives, values and beliefs. Oftentimes I travel alone, so I also welcome having a companion on those solo trips, be it foreigners (we can explore together) or locals (I would love to learn more about your city/country)!

If you were to visit Singapore, I would be most happy to bring you around the country -- we have so much amazing food and music here! -- or just have a quick coffee.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

It's impossible to pick just one!

- Conquering Mt. Fansipan, the tallest peak of Indochina, after getting lost near the summit for about an hour and having some near-death moments.
- Staying in a village homestay in the peaceful and gorgeous Sapa, among the rice terraces and water buffalos, and meeting like-minded travellers.
- Standing at the 91st storey of Taipei 101 on a superbly windy morning, looking down at Taipei's magnificent skyline.
- Playing in string quartets for paying audiences; the feeling of making music for people who can enjoy it is one reason I'm such a music geek!
- Scaling natural rock walls in Krabi right next to the sea, and looking down and out from the top of the rocks.
- Watching the sunrise from the summit of Gunung Ayam, a mountain in Malaysia, after a two-day trek up!
- Climbing on slippery wet rocks at waterfalls, trying my best not to slip and fall, while trekking up mountains in Malaysia. Then having to pluck off the leeches on my hands and legs.
- Splashing around and sitting directly under a small-ish waterfall in the lotus position, had some good laughs, got some bruises from the strong impact of the water on my shoulders, played with tadpoles in the water.
